Too Much Stuff ~

I must confess, I love my stuff.  I wish I would purge ~ think that less is more ~ but I think acquiring stuff is in my blood.  My mom had too much stuff, my brother has too much stuff, my sister has too much stuff.  Sometimes the acorn doesn't fall too far . . . sigh.

It's taken 3 days to take down the Christmas decorations.  The house looks so dark and bleak even though I leave the electric candles in the windows and have quite a few other lights burning 24/7.  On today's list is to haul it all up to the attic.  There are roughly 35 boxes (some small and some almost too large/heavy to handle) and about 20 trees to go up.  Then it will take another couple of days to put the house back together.  The biggest challenge may be finding where I put stuff 😁  It's in the attic, basement, cupboards, etc.  As I've said before, I am my own worst enemy.

All the hooking/stitching time I thought I would have didn't happen so really nothing to share just yet.  I am getting close on a couple small things.

As several have mentioned, longer evenings are being welcomed.  Our winter here in northern Ohio has been extremely mild so far.  Temps this week are in the mid to low 30's during the day and the upper 20's at night.  BUT . . . this is so wrong.  It is way too early for things to be sprouting.  Hopefully the daffodil bulbs will not appear.  It is sad when that happens and we get a hard freeze because though they can survive some cold weather, a hard freeze will do them in.

I hope everyone's new year is off to a good if not great start.
Thanks so much for stopping by.
Pug hugs 😊
Lauren

I took my decorations down yesterday...I was complaining about 6 boxes...YIKES! I have too much stuff too. I did a major purge back in November and only have a few wool stacks left. It feels really good to be able to breath in my room! But I have other things...too many other things! Hope you find time to stitch and hook!!!

I too love my stuff and have a hard time deciding what to get rid off if and when I decide to downsize. It makes me shudder to think of it! It took me all day to put away my Christmas and my house looks a little dull. But now I have more time for stitching since my Christmas stitching is over! Hope you have a great New Year and thank you for all your inspirations.

Guilty also of having too much stuff but certainly not Christmas decorations or Halloween decorations. I gave away most of my Halloween items to a dear guy pal who hosted Halloween parties and figured they should go to him. Early on when my son moved out on his one I passed onto him the Christmas balls which I'd purchased with him in mind as a family heirloom so those left years ago.

HA! Wool and other craft supplies are an abundance here and I don't need some of those either. I no longer do basketry so need to sell those supplies, have doll patterns, applique patters and books. While I need to purge I'm just lazy and don't feel like cleaning out. Thank goodness my house doesn't look like those houses I've seen about 'hoarders' tho neat-freaks would say otherwise. My house looks just fine until I take you upstairs to my sewing room and wool room. THEN you'd freak out!

Happy New Year 2021

I love my stuff also and have purged some and wanted it back LOL
So I'm careful now, my sewing room is a disaster and someday I'll have time to arrange it pretty.
If all goes well I'll be looking for a sweet rescue dog before long

You live further north than I do and my daffodils are not spouting yet. This is way too soon.
I think everyone needs to move every 10 years it forces you to purge, but at the end of 10 years you are right back where you started. I am starting to give stuff to the kids now so they won't have as much to deal with when I'm gone.
Stay safe and warm.

We had snow here today. Am slowly putting my Christmas away and adding my Winter. The optimal word is SLOWLY. Did finish up a few cupids to sell at the store though. Janice

Daffodils sprouting from the ground already? I'd be scared too that they will freeze.
We have snow since our last snowstorm and it feels like winter here.

I've started to take down my Christmas decorations but the tree is still up. I've taken all my totes into the living room and I'll start putting everything in the right totes tomorrow. I only have two tiny trees and one large tree and that's plenty for me. I have been busy so I have found that December went way too fast. I'm helping my husband to declutter his papers in the office and in his den... He never throws anything away and so they accumulate in piles and he can never find the papers he looking for. It's very slow progress.

Green things popping out of the ground in January? That's just plain wrong.

35 boxes? PLUS tress? Wowzers! I think I had maybe 3 boxes to deal with... but yes, after it's all put away it is a bit gloomy... we need some glittered Valentines to sparkle up the days, don't you think? :-)

I come from a long line of "stuff" people. I hear your pain and can relate lol

My business is decluttering for seniors, but when it came time for us to downsize our own stuff it was a chore. If you’re ever serious about purging you always need an eagle eyed steely friend to come advise!

Hey. Take your time. You are not a hoarder, your collections are not random, and getting rid of a few items will not make a dent worthy of the loss. If it takes a week to properly pack and store these treasures, take the week. Get one of those little stair dollys when you're too old to lift the boxes. Never give up!

Some people choose a word for the year, I have chosen a letter: D (declutter, donate, downsize). It's painful! Am loving the after and knowing someone else will not have to deal with all my stuff when I'm no longer around. My Mother is a hoarder and frequently says "someday I'm going to . . . I'm not sure when someday is but I'm working to complete my many, many projects now while I still have mental facilities. And yes, pieces which sing to my heart will still be purchased.

I love stuff as well. And seem totally unable to get rid of

Oops, hit the publish button too soon. .....any of it. Spent the last few days organizing my quilting stuff. Got rid of almost none. And no way I can ever finish all of it. Oh, well. The kids will know I was crazy when they have to clean it out once I am gone.
