Wool "Feather" Tree ~

To those considering a tinsel tree (Kim, Mel and Jennie), I am most happy to be an enabler :)  As Marly pointed out, it can be ordered online, too.

Many years ago (10+) Joanne who blogged at Snippets & Scraps of My Mind, sent me all the pieces parts to make a wool feather tree.  Since then I've looked up directions and purchased additional directions, but never made one.  I finally took a class yesterday from Connie at Wool Yankers in Wellington.  Here it is at long last.  Thanks to Connie who helped me wrap some of the branches so I could finish it.  I don't know why I had so many problems figuring out the branch placement.  I really felt like the class flunkie . . . sigh.  All I need to do now is stain the base.

Crazy day tomorrow.  Grocery store, baking pumpkin rolls, getting grandson for a haircut plus all the normal every day stuff.  I am just thankful I can do it.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Wool Yankers ~

Don't you just love that name?  I sure do.  That is the business name of Connie Bradley whose hook in was Saturday.  This has become an annual event that fills up quickly.  Each year Connie picks a non profit and all the proceeds go to that group.  This year she chose Pets for Vets.  The following is from their website.

"The enduring bond humans share with animals has the power to reduce suffering, mitigate loneliness, improve mental well-being and bridge the gap between ourselves and others. For our returning troops, these benefits are especially important to help ease the transition into civilian life.
Pets for Vets was created to improve the lives of both Veterans and animals by bringing them together in a thoughtful, caring way. Our goal is to give back to the brave servicemen and women who have given everything to our country, while finding homes for deserving shelter pets. By matching the right pet with the right Veteran, everyone wins! Shelter animals receive a second chance at life and Veterans receive a second chance at health and happiness."

The hook in was a great success and hopefully many dollars were raised to help this organization.

There were a few hooked pieces on display.

Here is a better picture of Connie's rug that I showed a few posts back.  It's got to be at least 4' across and hooked to perfection in a 3 to an 8 cut.

Darn.  I somehow missed taking a picture of Lynn's pumpkin rug that was hooked with the widest handtorn strips I had ever seen.  Some of them had to be over an inch wide.  It was wonderful.

Daddy is leaving early in the AM for a day trip to Michigan, so this sweetie is spending the night.  She is a delight.

Wool Yankers Hook-in ~

Life has been busy but boring.  Nothing on the rug front.  I am now half done with the hit and miss border but it doesn't look a whole lot different than the last time you saw it.

I spent a good part of the week getting ready for the Wool Yankers hook-in where friend Melissa and I had the privilege of vending.  I was pleased with my sales :)  Anything to help support my habits (hooking & antiques).

She makes the most wonderful jewelry
using lots of wool and buttons
and other fun stuff

Part of the rug display.  That's my Magdalena dog and crows on the middle right.

Melissa had told me about a tag sale last week.  I went on the first day.  They had some neat stuff but the prices were high.  I saw this fun table top desk but wasn't willing to spend the money.  Melissa was going on day 2 when most things are half price.  I asked her to purchase the desk for me if it was still there.  I was shocked when she said it was still there so she was able to get it for me.  What a surprise when I was getting it from her.  There was a ribbon tied around it and she gave it to me for my birthday.  What a wonderful gift!  We will be able to use it as our cash drawer when we vend at another hook-in at the end of May.  Thanks Melissa.  You are a dear friend :)

Only 17 1/2" wide, it has a leather top . . .

. . . and inside the lid, names and places are written and carved in.  Isn't that just too cool?  I wonder who Mabel Snyder was.  The owner of the desk or fancied by the owner?

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Wool Yankers Hook In ~

Yesterday I had the privilege of vending at Connie Bradley's Wool Yankers hook in in Wellington, Ohio.  A great time was had by all.  As usual I only snapped a few pictures.

The well lit room is perfect for hooking.

My booth looking toward Melissa's.  That's Bobbie doing more chatting than hooking, though she was off to a good start on an antique reproduction pattern from the Old Tattered Flag :)

Connie is a most generous and giving person, and all proceeds from the hook in are being donated to The Daughter Project.  The Daughter Project is a 501c3 non-profit operating Ohio's first licensed group home for girls who have been rescued from sex traffickers.   How sad.  I had no idea it was such a problem in Ohio.

What is Human Trafficking
  • Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery where people profit from the control and exploitation of others.
  • Victims are forced, defrauded, or coerced into trafficking. Even if victims initially offer consent, that consent is rendered meaningless by the actions of the traffickers to exploit them for labor, services, or commercial sex.
  • The most common age in Ohio for children to become victims of trafficking is 13 years old, and the number of Ohio children who become victims of human trafficking each year could fill a large high school.

They say if you don't like the weather in Ohio, stick around for a day and it will change.  Yesterday it snowed but thankfully most of it did not stick.  My poor daffs and hyacinth were not too happy this morning.  Thankfully today's sunshine perked them up.

I am finally working on my sheep challenge rug ~ a pattern that Kelley Belfast so generously offered to us on Facebook.
I purchased this wool several years ago thinking it would hook a perfect sheep, and it did.  I looked through my Betsy and Rebecca samples trying to find whose wool it is, but was unsuccessful.  It is sort of like a boucle.  It's hard to tell from the picture, but the uncut wool used for the sheep is on the left.

My progress so far.

Kelley's pattern had daffodils covering the hills, but that is the one thing we could change.  I am taking the easy way out and just hooking a couple big tulips.  The tulip is hooked with antique paisley ~ a first for me.  I just could not get a crisp picture.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
