The Wool Room ~

Anyone who has a wool/craft room knows it is almost impossible to keep it clean and organized.  I have been trying to fold and sort wool by color.  Problem is the wool is different sizes . . . and then deciding what color the wool is.  Is it blue?  Is it green?  Which shelf should it go on?  Is the piece too small to put on the shelf?  

I failed to take before pictures.  The shelves were a total disaster.  Here is what they look like now.  Much better but sadly I know as soon as I need to pull wool for a new project they will be a mess once again.  Another issue . . . too much wool!!!  I ended up having to put wool in two large plastic totes.  A terrible problem to have 😏

As any hooker knows, worms multiply while we sleep.  I finally sorted them.  I need to learn to cut as I go!!!

I will be dealing with this for quite some time.  It will take me a while to figure out where everything goes.  Some items will return to their previous cupboard shelf, but since some cupboards are configured differently, too many decisions on where things should go.  Plus trying to eliminate useless items!

Too Much Wool?

Normally I would say a person cannot have too much wool, but I am beginning to rethink my position.  The cupboards are bursting at the seams, so how can I never have the color I am looking for?

The first three cupboards are "sort of" divided by color families.  There is also wool in all the baskets but will I ever remember to look in them?

I really need to sort through those baskets on the top shelf.

The top shelf is wool that still needs washed and/or overdyed.  There is no rhyme or reason to the second shelf and some of the wools can't even be seen.

This does not take in to account all the worms and small bits of wool living in the closet.  I think I need WA - Wools Anonymous - and I would bet I could start my own chapter.  Care to join me?  Or maybe I just need a bigger hooking room :)

In Case You Were Counting ~

I forgot to post one other cupboard that resides in the hooking room.  This cupboard holds more wool (shocking) and some other miscellaneous things.

Two antique crocks.  The one on the left has serious damage to the base but I've camouflaged it quite well.

Several people wanted information on this pattern.  It is by Terri Leamer, My Winter Cottage on etsy.  She offers paper patterns, which I personally love, as either an instant PDF download or mailed.  When I go to her etsy shop, it is currently not showing up for me, but someone who emailed me for info went to her shop and found it.  I don't quite understand that.  I'm sure if it's not there for you, you can contact her.  Terri is sweet as can be.

Cindy does like her babies.  Sometimes the "thumbprint" on her forehead looks like a heart.  Now how special is that?

Hooking Room Tour ~ Part Two ~ & a Confession

I was asked what is the size of the hooking room.  It is just under 10' x 14'.  I know how to put 10# of stuff in a 5# bag :)

This antique table is where I cut my wool.  The light at that end of the room isn't good at night so I have a small Ott light to help.  (Lots of light during the day.)  Under the table is a basket of unwashed wool, much of which I hope to dye someday.

Crazy quilt heart made by friend Julia in South Carolina.  We have been corresponding for years and we are going to meet in person this month.  Jennie from Over the Hill and Running blog will be driving up from Georgia to join us.  So much fun meeting blog friends.  I've met others in the past, and it is like meeting up with old friends.

March did not come in like a lion here in northern Ohio.  It was sunny but C.O.L.D.  Our 10 day forecast isn't looking too good, either.

Hooking Room Tour ~

My hooking room is the third bedroom in my home.  It is not that large a room, but I have 6 antique cupboards, a hanging cupboard, antique table and an old tool box that is used as a coffee table in front of the Chippendale style sofa (in desperate need of recovering).  I am most comfortable hooking here.  I know I have shared some pictures in the distant past, and since I recently did some serious cleaning in there, I thought I would share once again.

The Hooking Room ~

The hooking room is finally organized, at the expense of a couple closets and cupboards.  When I wasn't sure what to do with something, it ended up in a closet or cupboard . . . sigh.

Reds, blues and greens.  The basket on the bottom right has wools I've chosen for a Maggie Bonanomi rug I want to hook and on the left on the top of the basket is my collection of bright wools :) 

Pie safe that has probably not seen its doors in decades.  The stacks are a little wonky because of differing sizes and shapes of wool I was folding.  

I love the top of the pie safe.  A few purchased items and many gifts from friends.  (Thank you Karin, Melinda, Bobbie, Cathy, Cynthia and Marly.)

Another pie safe purchased from a friend a couple years ago.  The ladies sewing pocket on the left is from the very talented Melinda of Merry Wind Farm and the pug quilt on the right is a gift from sweet Gayle, the Middle Sister.

Inside it is VERY GREEN.

Another antique cupboard filled with books and "stuff".

My corner cupboard (not sure what that phantom spot is on the right door) that desperately needs some attention.  It is to the point that when the upper doors are opened, "stuff" starts to fall out.

I've been collecting picnic baskets with the intention of hooking small mats for the top and giving as gifts.  I probably have 8 - 10 baskets and have yet to hook a rug for one of them.  These

are currently full of wooly worms.

I did decide to bring the little stand in I purchased at Gathered Treasures last weekend to hold books and magazines.

Under the table (that holds my cutter) is a basket of unwashed wool.

My problem child :)  The laundry basket is full of bits and pieces of wool.  I really need to sort by color and somehow organize them.

Yes, all this is in my not so big hooking room.  Plus I have a couch and an old tool chest that I use for a coffee table/catch all.  Hopefully I can do a little better job in keeping my wool/wool room organized, but as we all know, it's not an easy task.
