NEWS!!!

As many of you may recall, I adopted (Bad) Miss Molly from Ohio Pug rescue in November of 2019.  She was my first "foster fail", meaning I was fostering her and then adopted her.  Here she is shortly after I adopted her.  This picture always makes me smile.  She just looks like she's saying, "Mom, please get me out of here".  

She ended up having pug myelopathy and was losing the use of her hind legs and bodily functions.  She began having seizures and sadly got her pug wings in April of 2023.  Those grey faces just melt my heart.

Fast forward to yesterday.  I finally welcomed a new furkid in to my life.  Meet Harper.  She was such a good girl on the hour ride to my house (after having spent three hours in a car heading north from southern Ohio).

Poor baby.  Last evening her tail was between her legs.  Today she is showing off her great curl.

Harper has been through a lot in the last few days.  She and her sister were surrendered by their owner Saturday morning.  The owner had health issues and couldn't take care of them properly.  She spent three days with another OPR volunteer who brought her north.  In only three days she became so attached to her.  She just wants love and attention.  She is very sweet but has come with some baggage as I understand.  She "marks" if you walk away to another room and leave her.  I haven't left her loose out of my site!!!  She currently is in a crate while I work on this post.  She is not too happy, but last night she was the bestest girl in the crate.  Not a peep and the crate was clean this morning.  She also occasionally chases her tail which I was told could be a sign that she was confined to a small area.  Thankfully she is easily redirected.

You will be hearing lots more about her in the coming weeks/months.  She has a vet appointment next week and at that time a spay will be scheduled.  I just hope she does not come in to heat which would delay the spay by about three weeks.

Miscellaneous Monday Stuff ~

Christmas is approaching much too quickly, but I should be happy it is only December 9!  The inside decorating is pretty much done.  Cards still need to be written and outside decorating done.  I don't do much outside, but it still takes time.  Now gifts are another issue.  I had planned to make a couple more but I am losing faith that I can pull it off.  Need to check what gifts I have purchased and add a few as needed.  Plus I still need to mail two boxes off to family members.  Geez . . . then what am I doing on this darned machine 😁 ?

We had the most amazing sunset the other night.  I just happened to catch it from the driveway.  I wish I had noticed it earlier and headed to the lakefront for pictures with no obstructions.

Yesterday was Lorain's 29th annual TubaChristmas (it was started 51 years ago) and we enjoyed it as always.  You can read more about it here.

This little one, Bad Miss Molly, popped up as a memory yesterday.  How I miss that little stinker!  This was taken in January 2023 😪

Back to work.

One Year Ago Today ~

Miss Molly ~

Dear friend Laura gifted me a butterfly bush named Miss Molly.  I get all teary seeing it in the yard.  What a thoughtful gift.  Butterfly bushes are pretty finicky in northern Ohio so I hope she thrives.

I had a rose bush die over the winter so it was the perfect spot for her.

 

And here she is starting to bloom 💘   Lousy picture but beautiful color in person.  I really need to invest in some mulch!

The little stinker is never far from my mind 💔  One of my favorite pictures!  "Pug sit" always cracked me up!

THANK YOU!  Your kind comments, emails and texts regarding Molly were appreciated more than you can possibly realize.  I am still in denial.  It hurts, but that is the price paid for the unconditional love we are given.  Hug your furkids!!!

Pug Wings ~

 

In daddy's arms 💓

Molly has gained her pug wings.  Monday she took a turn for the worse and Tuesday I made the painful decision to give her her pug wings.

We have been told that angels have wings, but we learn that some of them have paws.

Love Birds ~

 

Love Birds is hooked, bound AND labeled.  Two 2022 class rugs done and one to go (that should take me all of a half hour to fix the eyes!).  It is actually a little more drab in person.  

This is the smaller of the two sizes that Sally Kalin offers.  It is 28" x 21".

In two weeks I will be at hooking class #2 of 2023.  I will be hooking another antique adaptation.  Teacher is Kris Miller of Spruce Ridge Studios.  She is always a fun time and has the best stories.

I finally broke down and took a sample of Miss Molly's urine to the vet.  Hopefully the amoxicillin will take care of it, but I am not too optimistic.  They did an in house test which does not give an indication of what antibiotic would work best.  Next step is to send it to the lab.  Last time it was sent to the lab, it was a $138 test.  She is definitely my million dollar baby 😖

Hooky Stuff ~

So many wonderful hooked pieces shared during last week's Twenty Dollar Hookers' retreat in Millersburg, OH.

Here are a few completed pieces that were brought.

Lora was the over acheiver 😁

Lynn's hit and miss mat.  I'd say hooked with mostly #10 strips.

Look at this fat proddy edge!  These are the true colors.

Tammy's Beside Still Waters.

Vicki is super hooker.  She completed a wool applique project for her mom (thought I took a picture but I guess not) and got this much hooked on a new rug.

Melissa is making progress on Henny, Penny and Streak.  It is much larger than it looks.

Lee got lots of Rufus hooked.  She says a 9 cut goes so much more quickly than her normal 6 cut.

Julie was gifted this rug partially hooked.  I believe it is 5' x 7'!!!

The butt of Tanya's Proud Lion.  Tanya always picks the most wonderful colors.

Ruthellen finished a paisley pattern started long ago.

Of course I missed pictures of a few rugs, but I did much better than I normally do.

Miss Molly.  What can I say?  Minutes after giving her her two anti-seizure meds Sunday evening she had a seizure . . . the first in 6 weeks.  It was milder than the others, but nonetheless upset me and broke my heart 💔  Think good thoughts, please.

And Now There Are Four ~

 

Gypsy has been bound.  It was bound in one of the wools used in the background.  One down, four to go 😁  The four have been trimmed, steamed and the edges zigzagged (I don't have a serger).  Thankfully they are smaller than Gypsy.

In October I am vending at a show that is not a hook in.  I am determined not to wait until the last minute to make non-hooking related items.  (Or did I already tell you that?)  I did make 15 wool wreaths.  All that's left is to add a bow.  It's a start!

Did you know that black dogs are usually the last to be adopted from a shelter?

And speaking of black dogs, Molly is still seizure free, but is having great difficulty walking.  It is just heartbreaking to see her dragging herself across the floor.  That gray face just melts my heart.
