Venting ~

East Palestine, Ohio.  My heart breaks for the residents.  Why is our government not stepping in and calling this a disaster area?  Do the demographics not check the right boxes?  How many EPA officials have you seen drinking the water?  Other government officials?  Where is our so-called transportation secretary?  Property values?  Do you think anyone has a snowball's chance in hell of selling and moving away?

I live about 100 miles west of East Palestine, but I have railroad tracks within a quarter mile of my house.  What if this had happened in a more densely populated area?  WHY ARE THE CONCERNS OF THE RESIDENTS BEING IGNORED?  The government is saying to just trust them.  Yeah, right.

Please keep all the residents in your prayers.

The dems and liberal media is silent about this because it is a liberal in office. If President Trump was in office there would already be another impeachment hearing in the making and talk of drawing and quartering him.
There is also a railroad track less than a quarter of a mile from my house too and now wonder if they carry dangerous chemicals.

We are seeing news reports of this, and it makes me feel sick to think of these families and the environment. The railroad company has pretty much dropped out and hasn't been heard from last I heard. This is a horrible mess!
prayers to them

Lauren, you have every reason to be concerned, and also Saundra. It's obvious that there are dangerous chemicals being transported in the fastest and cheapest way, via the railway.

I'm sure you heard of the Megantic Rail disaster in Quebec on July 6, 2018. A runaway train with 72 tankers filled with 8 million liters of crude oil from Dakota, bound for an oil refinery in New Brunswick, killing 47 people and burning a large area of the town of Megantic. A series of mishaps caused the fire on board the train. Horrific, horrific things can happen.

Clean water and air are essential. The power-that-be no longer cares because they don't live in the area, it's obvious.

My two cent worth. Hugs.
Julia

I so agree with you on this. Let them drink the water. Butigieg would rather talk about the problem with only white folks in the trades jobs instead of doing his real job. He went to see the island where he is sending an electric ferry though. All smiles there even though the residents themselves dont want the damn ferry. I feel so bad for the residents Their lives will never be the same, nor their town. So heartbreaking, but maybe if it was called a Chinese name they might get the help they need. Janice

Rant is more than justified. This is a catastrophic failure on so many levels and my heart hurts for the residents and, as you said, most are "trapped" as they can't just pick up and leave their homes, jobs, etc. And the other horrendous effects won't be known for years. I also can't believe that, at least up until recently, only one network was even reporting on this. WTH???? ~Robin~

The President has not said a word about this. Why did they allow all those toxic cars on one train? Doesn't anyone monitor this?
My heart just breaks for the people of East Palestine.

The government isn't doing anything just like they aren't attending to the disaster at our border. We have an ineffectual president and he has a box of rocks for VP. The transportation secretary needs to step down but he's too busy considering running for the WH in 2024. God help us all

So many coincidences. I find it damning that the environmental acceptable level ppm for polyvinyl chloride was changed days BEFORE this crash.

It is alarming how many in our government have an attitude of "out of sight, out of mind" unless it concerns them and their wellbeing.

I totally agree with you and the comments I have read!! I have heard this incident referred to as the US's Chernobyl. An Aggie friend reminded me that the river water is used down stream to irrigate crops. We need to be careful where our food comes from whether it be be produce, channeled through an animal, or processed food. The powers that be are trying to break us. Colleen

re the comment about what is allowed on a train. If not on a train, then by truck. The bad stuff is already going up and down the highways often unmarked. I helped with a disaster management plan for here and the main risk was the highway 2 miles from my rural house. Colleen

100 percent unacceptable & I'm going to vent with you.
The long-term impact is unknown, but even short-term, would you buy produce or meat from this area? Most of the local residents have well water. How long will it remain unsafe? Would you take a shower or a bath in the water? How do farmers water their livestock? Would you eat a tomato grown here?
And the residents are stuck. Who would buy a home here if a resident wanted to move? What if you owned the local diner or gas station. Are you going to move and walk away from your business?
I make a living selling products from our land. Elderberries grown here. Honey from the hives. What if my farm were 50 miles east of the train derailment instead of 50 miles west, as it is. I would be where these people are: stuck and afraid for my health.
It's time to vote our so-called leaders out of office. This is precisely when the government is supposed to help its own people. It is infuriating to watch elected officials do nothing. I NEVER comment publicly about political things, but I have had enough.

This is such a crime another one of this government. It breaks my heart and I know will have such a long standing problem.
It breaks my heart and I do hope today that Trump will have a solution when he visits today.
