~ SURPRISE ~

My brother's twice delayed surprise 70th birthday party finally happened :)  I think his DSO could not have handled one more cancellation.  Here he is arriving at the party.  It was assumed he would recognize some of the cars upon his arrival, so we were all standing on the second floor balcony yelling "SURPRISE" . . . and I do think he was genuinely surprised.

A fun idea for a do-it yourself card.

Finally ~ something hooked to share with you.  I originally hooked the mouth but was not liking it.

At hooking the other day, I finally finished his face.  A couple people said he looked good without a mouth.

Friend Linda had suggested buttons in lieu of a hooked mouth.  I like it and now need to stitch them on.  The pattern is Chilly and can be found here.

Here is the background wool.  I have very little left but wish I had more.  I really like how it hooked up.  The rug is ready for binding . . . next on my list . . . and we all know how much we love binding (other than you, Robin!).

This about sums up how I feel.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
Pug hugs :)
Lauren

Oh my goodness, I have some of that background wool and never thought of it as a background (I've been overdying it). Let me know if you need more.

I love that background. He looks good without a mouth and also with a buttoned lip. Most men do. Finally. A birthday card you could eat.

I'd never have thought of using it as a background either. I tend to do boring light mixtures or primitive black. You're way ahead on the "C" gift giving.

Hi Lauren,
So happy the surprise party could actually take place and be a SURPRISE!!! LOVE the Birthday card and when I enlarged it, I laughed at how the candy was so cleverly used!! Great idea, and edible too!!! Your snowman is so sweet and love the background plaid wool!! It gives so much nice texture!! Piglet and Pooh really sum things up, don't they?
Guess we all need some energy and bounce like Tigger!!!
Take care and don't work too hard in your beautiful yard!!!
Heart Hugs~

Happy Birthday to your brother. I'm glad he finally got a surprise birthday party despite all the cancellations. I love the candy bar birthday card and the clever way the message was worded.
Your snowman looks so neat. In my humble opinion, I think he only needs three buttons instead of four. I love that background wool too. It looks so nice.

Pooh, Piglet, and me too.
Take care, hugs,
Julia

Such a sweet snowman. Funny, my thought was also that 3 buttons looked great. Love that background wool too

Your post leaves me with lots of wishes: I wish I had the candy on your brother's card. I wish men came with no mouths....or at least buttons so we can choose to open them or not. ;-) I wish I had some of that wool you used for your background. (I don't often even notice wools people use actually unless they point it out, but this I noticed right away and was going to ask you about it....hmmmmm) and, most importantly, I wish Pooh and Piglet would run for President and Vice President. ~Robin~

.....oh, and, yes....I still like binding, albeit I take the easy way out with the whipped edge....and gee.....I haven't yet bound my Gillford runner. Maybe you're rubbing off on me. ;-)

That is such a fun card for a birthday very creative and I am sure it bought a smile to his face.
Love how your rug came out and the buttons were the perfect touch.
