Baby Steps ~

I am getting things done, but nothing major.  Lots of little accomplishments, but little is better than nothing, right?

I joined Saundra in hooking a cat's paw mat.  Mine is small, just 13" x 14".

Before returning from Florida in March, older brother Bill stopped in Mobile, AL, to visit our sister.  My grandma's rocker no longer lives in Alabama, but now in Ohio.  Sadly her daughter is very minimalistic and has no desire to hang on to this family piece.  I fear it will mean nothing to my boys, either.  It makes me sad.

I've also finished binding two of the three door prize mats for this October's hook in.  Fingers crossed that we can hold it.  I (along with many others) need a hooking fix :)  These are bound with wool, my binding of choice.

I need to make labels as I have a half dozen things needing one.  Michaels has not had a 40% off coupon for a couple months and I'm hoping they will have one soon now that the stores are open.  The printable fabric they carry that I prefer, not cheap to begin with, has jumped in price.  Better the cash in my pocket than theirs :)

The lilac bush is so fragrant.  Too bad it doesn't flower all summer.

The poppies I have are very invasive, but worth the show.  I love how the buds droop.

The flowers, so very delicate.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
Pug hugs :)
Lauren

Just love this post! The flowers, the hooked rugs, that gorgeous rocker. Fingers crossed that a lot of events won’t cancel this summer and fall !

The pad for your grandmother's rocker is a magnificent antique heirloom and it IS sad no one will cherish it like we do. Sadly the antiques I had when my son was growing up won't be welcomed in their house either. But 'they' live in the throw-away culture. What a great chair pad you made to accompany your grandma's seat. If you ever see the rocker rocking with no one in it you'll know she is delighted.

Oh, you do such nice work! That rocker is precious;what a keeper. and of course you have lilacs and poppies in your garden too. Lauren, you are amazing! I still don't understand why they call that pattern "cats paws" doesn't look much like their paw prints! ~karla

So sad that the younger generation does not appreciate items passed down. Our kids think our stuff is firewood, so I know it wont last after we are gone. Your cats paw fits perfectly on your newly acquired chair! Love your Halloween mats too. Janice

Looked at your post again and totally forgot to comment on the great fall mats you've hooked. Hope the event happens as planned and I know whoever gets your item will be pleased.

Oh my. The background of the pumpkin cat is soooooo nice! You really do beautiful work.

My mom had just a few small items from her mom and my dad had nothing from his. They gave things away to someone wanting or needing which told me that was OK. I have maternal grandmother's china which is crackled and unusable, nothing from paternal. I only kept a few personal items from mom and dad and no longer feel guilty about the rest. My sister couldn't part with a little decorative piece from mom's kitchen, but she didn't know mom hated it. She never threw anything away and couldn't find anyone that wanted it!!!

Your rugs are beautiful and great color choices. I had a rocker I got when my son was born, but they didn't want it, kids don't care now so I figure I might as well sell off what I don't want since they will just trash it, lol. My lilacs didn't come in so nicely this year, I guess it was their bad year.

Michaels accepts coupons from AC Moore, JoAnns, and Hobby Lobby. I know JoAnns still has been offering 40% off coupons periodically. You can find coupons online or with the app on an iPhone. Hope that helps.

The colours in your cats paw are great! Making one is on my list. What kind of printer do you need to use the cloth labels from Michaels?

Your cats paw mat is beautiful! It looks perfect on the rocker! I think with this generation not wanting the old stuff, is going to make it more valuable (because less available) to THEIR grandkids.... after all, that's what was worth the most in our days.... the stuff that most folks trashed in the late 1800's to early 1900's! lol! Those poppies are gorgeous!

Love the cats paw mat...great color choices! I need to learn the wool finish for rugs. I always whip stitch and if you use them on the floor they get shabby quickly. Your flowers are gorgeous...thanks for sharing.
Stay well.

You know, I shouldn't have to keep reminding you that my birthday is right before yours. I am sure you'll have that stitched piece done long before then....even with a little frogging along the way. ;-) Seriously...tell me what that pattern is...it looks like something I would like to do (if I can tolerate the charting errors....grrrr...) And you also know, that you make some of us hookers feel very incompetent. I never tire of looking at your impeccable, perfectly even, loops. That rocker is a true treasure. Sigh...I so hear you about the generation that doesn't appreciate the things we do. I still have my fingers crossed that Little Crow will find a girl who does....like his very first love did. Lilacs already?? Holy moly.....we're not even close. Love poppies... I had a few...for a year or two...but they must not have liked Nod either. ~Robin~

What a sweet little chair. A real shame that it won’t be cherished after you are gone. Such is life, I suppose. You are certainly cranking out those cute mats! I love lilacs, but they don’t do well in the South. Yours are so pretty, and I love poppies.
