Yarn Sewing ~

I'd not heard of it before, but tomorrow I am heading about an hour east to take a yarn sewing class.  We will make a 5" x 10" mat.  The description of the class is as follows.  "Yarn sewing, a technique that predates rug hooking, can be used to make rugs, table mats, or wall hangings.  It does not require frames, hooks or cutting wool strips so it is a portable project."  Just what I need.  One more craft I don't have time for but it sounds like fun :)

Sunday is my favorite annual antique show in Milan, Ohio, the birthplace of Thomas Edison.  It is held on the square and there is no admission.  I hope I don't find too many things I can't live without . . . lol!

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Last Loop ~

This evening I finished pulling the last loop on a little mat, Fraktur Tulip, by Star Rug Company.  The finished size is only 11" x 12 1/2".  One more to add to my binding pile . . . sigh.  I guess that's a good thing because it means I'm getting things hooked.  I do not have my next project planned.  I have plenty to choose from, for sure.  Decisions, decisions.

Many of you will remember I ended up adopting Ellie because my dear friend Judy passed away way before her time.  Her daughter Laura was in town and stopped by for a visit.  Aren't these just the sweetest pictures?

My computer has been giving me fits downloading pictures tonight and this short post took about forever . . . gggrrrrr.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Sissy Sailing ~

What a glorious holiday weekend it has been.  Time spent with family and friends, time in the garden, time for hooking.  Life is good :)

DSO lives in what was formerly The American Ship Building Company.  The channel in front of his unit was a dry dock where 1000' ore carriers were built.  A friend drove up in his amphi-car to say hi.  Since the car doesn't have cleats to tie it to the dock, foot power is used to keep it from floating away.  It sure does garner a lot of attention.

Just down the river is the Charles Berry Bascule Bridge, the second largest bascule bridge (aka drawbridge) in the world.  It was raised to let a sailboat pass under.  What a beautiful sight.

We had a wonderful view of the fireworks from DSO's dock.

Today we went sailing with my brother Bill ~ sissy sailing, as he calls it.  It was quite windy on Lake Erie, so he only put up the Genoa sail, also known as the jib.  When he sails without the main sail, he calls that "sissy sailing", but we were still sailing about 8 knots (roughly a little over 9 mph).  That's a good clip in a sail boat.  Here we are leaving the harbor, heading out to open water past the Lorain Lighthouse, known as the Jewel of the Port.

The lighthouse is a work in progress.  Note the scaffolding.

"Skipper" brother Bill

Weekends pass much too quickly, even long ones.  Back to work tomorrow . . . sigh.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Antique Goodes ~

Just thought I'd share my newest old acquisitions.  This sweet little crock was won on a Facebook auction.  It is the first time I've bid on one of the auctions.  It has a small hairline crack in the base.  A wonderful addition to my "cracked crock" collection.

Sunday was the antique show on the square in Medina.  The middle feather edge pepper pot was one of my purchases.  The base has been repaired but it was a very good price :)  I'm so happy I found it before someone else did.

I was thrilled to find this antique sampler.  There is a bit of thread loss in the upper left corner, but overall it is WONDERFUL.  It is signed Elizabeth Boyer . . .

. . . and dated 1823.

I now have 2 antique samplers that need to be hung.  What a terrible problem to have :)

How can it possibly be July?   What is happening here?  Time is flying by much too quickly.

Be My Valentine ~

Be My Valentine was the theme of the 2014 Kid'l de Divey hook-in at Kingwood Center in Mansfield, OH, which is now but a pleasant memory.  Katie and crew always do an excellent job putting on this hook-in in the most gorgeous setting.  A good time was had by all.

If you chose to participate, you brought a 4" x 6" Valentine you made.  Most were hooked but not all.  If you brought a Valentine, you received one to take home.

Aren't they fun?

This was my Valentine.

I don't think I could sew something on straight if my life depended on it :)

Here is the Valentine I came home with.  So simple and sweet.

I was lucky to be asked to sell my spoon necklaces and garden markers at the hook-in.  I was most pleased with my sales.  I only bought a half yard of wool (such restraint) and this sweet little pin cushion.  Lanna of Humble Rugs is a very talented hooker and needle puncher, rug designer and the maker of delightful pin cushions.

Even with friends to watch my booth, I tried not to be gone for long.  I didn't realize how few pictures I had taken, but I hope you enjoy the show.

I love this rug.

Since I made a little cash, I treated myself at the antique show today.  Stay tuned.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

I'd Forget my Head . . .

. . . if it wasn't attached.  Last Sunday I went to the Crows on the Ledge hook in.  I'm about half way there (about 30 minutes) when I realize I'd forgotten my frame.  Thankfully Donna had a frame I could use.  Did I remember to get out my camera?  NO.

Aren't these cool?  Julia from South Carolina won some garden markers from me and she was so sweet she gifted me these Santas.  She lives near the beach in South Carolina and gathers these oyster shells and turns them in to these wonderful Santas.  She also sent me a beautifully sewn pincushion and some sea glass.  How lucky can a hooker get?

Speaking of gifts, dear friend Wink gave me this green feather edge bowl as a belated birthday gift (in addition to treating me to a night at the bed and breakfast in Zoar).  I have a large collection of blue, (see it here) but this is only my second piece of green.  I am truly blessed to call her friend.

While in Zoar area, we hit a few antique malls, but IMHO, there weren't too many antiques in these malls.  I did buy this metal eagle.  I think maybe it is from the top of a flag pole but I'm not sure.  Perhaps vintage but definitely not antique, but that's okay because I like him just the same.  I know I purchased a few other things but they must be pretty unmemorable because I can't think of what they are.

For years I've planned on making these concrete leaves but still haven't, so I picked these up from a vendor at the Zoar community garden.  I almost bought a third one but didn't.  I should have because I was going to keep one for myself and give one as a gift, but now they will both be gifts.  (The larger one is just over 12" tall.)

I also got this sweet Turtlecreek pottery sheep.  (Half price - yeah.)

Saturday is the hook in at Kingwood Garden in Mansfield, OH.  It is put on by the sweetest hooker you will ever meet, Katie of Kid'l de Divey Woolens.  She has asked me to vend my hooker necklaces so I've been busy stamping away.  Anything I can do to help support my habit.

Hopefully I'll get out the camera and have lots to share.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
