Shoo Fly ~

This reminds me of my Ellie :(

A couple readers were wondering what a shoo fly is.  It is a rocking horse, dating to around the turn of the last century.

The shoo fly in my living room is missing its rockers, but I have another in the hooking room on top of a wool cupboard.

Another example stolen off  borrowed from etsy.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
Pug hugs :)

By the picture on your previous post, I thought that the rocking horse might be that shoofly you were talking about but wasn't sure. Maybe they called it shoo fly when the kids rocked it, it would shoo the fly away from the pies that were cooling. lol

Thanks for your clarification.

I love that. But why did they call the rocking horse a shoo fly ?? Seems so unusual.

I have never heard of it called that name, I learned something new.

We bought pieces of a shoo fly from another antique dealer and sold them as wall hangers. Did not realize you were farther east of Toledo. Yes it would take you a looong time to get to our home. Janice
