More Vintage Christmas ~

As promised, here are some more of my vintage Christmas items. This year, I have a small tree in the bathroom where I've hung all my figural light bulbs.

Plastic from my youth that is now considered vintage. I guess that makes me vintage, too :)
{{The other night, I took my son and grandson to a pizza buffet (grandson picked the place), and for the first time ever, I was given the senior price. I didn't realize it until today. For some unknown reason I looked at my receipt this morning. Talk about ruining my day!!!}}

I love the graphics on this old cigar box lid. I've filled the box with vintage ornaments.
Celluloid and early plastic reindeer ~ many with only a single antler ~ under my only old feather tree.
Feather tree with some old ornaments. All the bead garland is vintage.
Old Santa.
I was told this angel was from my Grandma's Nativity set.
Thank you so much for stopping by and visiting.

Vintage Christmas ~

Christmas greetings to you. Tonight I thought I would share some of my vintage Christmas decorations. This is a wind-up celluloid Santa and reindeer on a metal sleigh. I bought it with the key and box and it still works. My guess is that it's from the '40's.
Another celluloid Santa sitting a celluloid sled pulled by a one-antlered reindeer.
More celluloid. The Merry Christmas to the left is vintage Germany. The large Santa on the right held a candle. The book is a reproduction.
Celluloid Santa tucked in the tree.
Celluloid Santa rattle.
A small flock of German stick leg sheep.
I believe these Santas are also from the 40's. All are vintage except for the Santa on skis. The bottle brush trees are also vintage.
1960's???

Santa made in Occupied Japan.
More vintage ornaments. I believe these are from a type of pipe cleaner with celluloid or papier mache faces.

I hope you enjoyed my vintage tour. I have more to share in another post.
Out of the mouths of babes...My grandson is 5 and his mom dropped him off at my workplace shortly before it was time to go home. I gave him some paper and a couple of markers. He drew a picture (not sure what it was) and then drew a line through the middle of it and told me it was a "line of symmetry" and then told me what that meant. A bit later he was drawing a boy and was helping me draw a girl. He told me to draw a trapezoid for her skirt!!! Luckily I drew it correctly.
I really must get busy and get the box that needs to be sent to Las Vegas ready to mail tomorrow. Then there's the box to Alabama...and southern Ohio. Cards to finish...silver to polish, wreaths to hang.....gifts to wrap.....

The Big Tree & Special Ornaments ~

I am happy to report that our blizzard with a possible one to two feet of snow has not materialized. We got a few inches of snow with the chance of a bit more, but so far, so good. The temperatures have plummeted and the winds are fierce, so with the wind chill factored in, it is miserable!
Tonight I will share the living room tree that you saw "naked" yesterday. My tree is very eclectic. I have everything from homemade ornaments, a few vintage, lots of Hallmark, ornaments received as gifts, etc. The memories come flooding in while I am hanging them.
Here are some very special ornaments I hang every year made by my sons who are now 31 and 29.

These were made by my dear niece who is now "middle aged". Actually she is a very young 41, but when I turned 40 she told me I was officially middle aged. Sorry, Elise. I won't let you forget that.

This is an ornament made by my Mom. I believe it is bobbin lace.
I have lots more Christmas to share with you in the coming days.
Thank you so much for stopping by :)

Congrats to...

Congrats to....
Andy ~
Please send me your name and address and I will get your package out tomorrow ~ weather permitting :)
My weekend was spent decorating. Okay, I'll be the first to admit I'm a glutton for punishment. I've been decorating for almost two weeks and I'm getting a little tired of it. I get sidetracked too easily (read ~ checking my emails and blogs) so it takes me forever. I had a helper today. My tree is absolutely pathetic. It loses more needles than a live tree, but once I get it decorated it looks great. I have a lot of large and/or heavy ornaments and this tree can hold them.
I guess Jake thinks he can hang ornaments better is he holds his mouth just right :)
I was going to show you the finished tree, but I forgot to rotate the picture so I deleted it. I'll show you another time.
Thank you so much for reading my blog!!! I just surpassed 50,000 hits and have 136 followers ~ woo hoo! {{I actually had 137 two days ago. I guess one person no longer likes me :( }} When I started my blog I wasn't sure if anyone would care what I had to say. I wasn't even sure what I had to say. I must say, I'm enjoying it immensely and have "met" so many wonderful friends. Thanks to each and everyone of you!

Lucky Day !!!

Today was my lucky day. My give~away win arrived from Sandi over at Olde Crow Primitives. It is the most wonderful little rug. It is delightfully out of round and the colors just make it look so old. Thank you so much Sandi :) I will treasure it always!
The flash brightened it too much.

At lunchtime today I passed a sign for a tag sale. The house sat on the shore of Lake Erie. What a gorgeous view from the back yard. Normally I find the prices rather high the first day of the sale that this particular tag sale organizer has. I found this wooden bowl without a price. Now, I need another bowl like I need to gain five pounds, but heh, I had to ask the price. $2.00 I was told. I'm guessing she didn't see my jaw drop :)
It does have its faults - a sloppily repaired crack and a little green paint on the inside.
I'm not sure what the heck happened here. It looks like someone sliced off a piece of the bowl, but when turned to the back, you can't see it, so this bowl has joined the many others I have sitting in the bottom of an antique cupboard. {{It's an obsession I have. I just can't help myself.}}
Thank you so much for stopping by.
Don't forget to sign up for my give~away on my previous post.
Sandi, thank you so much for my rug!!!

GIVE~AWAY TIME ~ ~ ~

Thank you so much for dropping. In appreciation of all my blog buddies, I am having a little give~away. I just finished this little cross stitch piece and decided to make it in to a little pillow. The pillow did not come out quite as good as I had hoped ~ but better than I had anticipated. It has been YEARS ~ many, many ~ since I've even sewn anything as basic as this pillow! It is a chart I purchased probably 20+ years ago. The company was Hand Dids and the designer is Merrilyn Fedder. The pillow is a more coffee stained color than appears in the picture. It is approximately 6" x 6", backed with wool and stuffed with snippets for a lumpy feel. {{The Santas are not included.}}
Now for the fine print -
  • You don't have to be a follower but I really would appreciate it!
  • Leave me a comment on this post or drop me an email with "give~away" in the subject line so I'll be sure to see it. If you don't have a blog or are commenting as anonymous, be sure to leave me an email address.
  • I'll pick the recipient Sunday evening at 6pm.
  • You are welcome to post this on your blog, but that does not give you another entry :)

Pug hugs :)

Library, a Movie and Luck ~

Tonight was hooking at the Fairview Park Library. It was a very small but talented group of hookers! Here's Andrea's sheep rug. Once she gets more of the face filled in it won't look so spooky! Stop over at That'll Do Farm and say hi.
Lisa was binding a little Magdalena Briner rug. As usual, the colors are TOTALLY wrong in the picture. It is absolutely wonderful in person ~ very muted and old looking.
Here's Sylvia's finished sheep rug. (SSHHH. I don't think I'm supposed to tell you this is the same rug that Andrea is working on. I wasn't "allowed" to put the pictures side by side!) Once again, the color is all wrong :(
A close up of the sheep and the roving she used for dimension.
One of the sunflowers.
Karin is busy at work on her antique adaptation. She says she's hooking this one for herself!
That's Sylvia at work on a rug designed by her daughter Lisa. Polly is busy in the background.
Sylvia's rug. I love the way she is hooking the snowman. It gives such texture.
Polly is working on a sweet little penny runner for her daughter, I believe.
I won't even bore you with the progress ~ or lack thereof ~ on my rug. One of these days.....sigh!
Sunday afternoon I took my grandson to see Tangled. I had no idea what the movie was about. I only knew that it was rated PG. Oh, we LOVED it! I may have enjoyed it more than he did. He kept telling me that it was "laugh out funny". I told him it was "laugh out loud funny" but he said "no, laugh out funny". Either way, it was totally delightful!
Yesterday was my lucky day. I won a give-away from Sandi over at Olde Crow Primitives. What a great way to start the week. Thank you so much, Sandi!!!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
