Monday Mumblings ~

Saturday my favorite soccer player had his first game of the season.  He was so excited that he scored two goals.  They don't keep score, but he was so proud that his team "won".

Sunday we headed south to spend Mother's Day with my older brother Bill and his DSO Lyn.  My brother made the most yummy, fall off the bone ribs!  He lives on five acres and he took Jake and the dogs for a ride down to the river.  That's Zoey on the left and Trina on the right, both rescue dogs.  Trina was adopted about a month ago and has fit right in!

Yesterday I picked my first lilacs of the season.  They smell heavenly!

 

Near the river bottom at my brother's, many wild flowers grow.  Brother Bill says these are wild sweet William.

My younger son J (Jake's dad) makes jewelry as a hobby.  For Mother's Day, he gave me these earrings.  They are aquamarine stones (my birth stone) that he set in to earrings.  I will treasure them always!

I've made some progress on my proddy sheep rug and started binding my Maggie B rug.  This weekend I'm off to a hook in and will take many pictures to share.

"It's a nice car, Bruce, but do you realize how much the insurance is going to be?"

"I've got a bill here for a busted chair from the Bear family. You know anything about this, Goldie?"



ALBERT EINSTEIN'S MOTHER:

"But, Albert, it's your senior picture. Can't you do something about your hair? Styling gel, mousse, something...?"


JONAH'S MOTHER:

"That's a nice story, but now tell me where you've really been for the last three days."


SUPERMAN'S MOTHER:

"Clark, your father and I have discussed it, and we've decided you can have your own telephone line.

Now will you quit spending so much time in all those phone booths?"


THOMAS EDISON'S MOTHER:

"Of course I'm proud that you invented the electric light bulb, Thomas. Now turn off that light and get to bed!"

Last Mother's Day was the last one I got to spend with my dear Mom.  It was the last time she left the house before she passed away.  Love you Mom.  Miss you :(

Finally Some Sunshine . . .

For Kim . . . and Joanne . . and Karen . . . and all of you who don't like snakes.  This is a post about snakes!

OK.  Let me begin by saying I don't have a problem with garden snakes.  Actually I welcome them in my garden because they eat lots of bugs!  Today, here in northern Ohio, there was this bright light in the sky.  If I remember correctly, they call is sunshine.  It has been quite some time since we've seen it.  So I am out cleaning leaves from the flower beds.  Thankfully I was wearing garden gloves because in a handful of leaves was a snake.  Oh, yes, I screamed like a girl, dropped the snake . . . or maybe after my scream he jumped out of my hands.  I may not have a problem with them, but I don't want them scaring the bejesus out of me either!

Since I'm on the subject of snakes, I thought I'd share these pictures taken a few years ago of a momma and baby snake (since it is close to Mother's Day) sunning themselves in the garden.  They were just too cute!

Peanut, Progress and a Little Confusion ~

I got an email from Peanut's new mom a couple of days ago.  I was so happy to hear that Peanut has adjusted quickly and they just love her to pieces!  When her new mom is home, she is velcroed to her side and when she's not, Peanut is dad's shadow.  Oh, it did my heart good to hear that she is doing well!!!

I'm making good progress on my proddy sheep rug.  It is being hooked in mostly a 9.5 cut and just a bit of an 8.5.  In person, there is not quite so much contrast between the two blues.  I'm having fun with this rug and so far am pleased with the results.

I think my last post caused a bit of confusion.  The hooked tulip mat is not my Maggie B rug.  It is just a little tulip I drew up.  My Maggie rug is hooked but not yet bound.  It was the very simple flower design I showed in a number of previous posts.  When I get it bound (hopefully soon!), I will post another picture.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  It's still raining here on Ohio's north coast.  I'm whining because I can't get my flower gardens cleaned out, but what about the farmers whose livelihood depends on the weather?  I really have much to be thankful for and should stop complaining, shouldn't I?

It's That Time of the Month Again ~

It's that time of the month again, time for my April report card - May goals.  I'd love to say I didn't get too much done on my April list because I was vacationing somewhere warm and sunny or exploring the old cathedrals in Europe, or even that I was able to catch up on my yard work.  Sadly, none of those excuses would be true.  I stayed close to home and the weather has been less than ideal to accomplish any yard work :(

These were my April goals.

• finish the Maggie B rug ~ DONE
• bind my horse, tulip and Maggie B rugs (UGH! I hate the finishing part!) ~ Only the little tulip mat is bound.  The Maggie B rug is steamed and the horse rug is STILL rolled up in the same place it was two months ago.
• make that "wool hookin' tools case" that I didn't make in March ~ Not even started
• make my "pay it forward" goodies and get them mailed ~ Done
• purge 2000 more emails ~ Done
• have a give-away ~ Done

Hey.  It looks like I got more done than I thought I did :)

I am not going to add a whole lot to my May goals because I'm hoping this weather will soon let me get out in the yard.  There is so much work to be done.  I'm sure all of you can relate!  I know come August we'll be praying to the rain gods for some of this precipitation. 

May goals ~

• finish what I did not finish in March and April
• purge 1000 more emails (I am down to less than 5000 - woo hoo)
• complete my proddy sheep rug
• make a birthday present
• YARD WORK!!!

Down on the Farm ~

Thursday evening was our monthly hooking down on the farm ~ That'll Do Farm.  Andrea is always the hostess with the mostess!  She is making great progress on her sheep rug.  She is hooking this in a 6 cut and the rug is B-I-G!

Melissa is very close to finishing her Karen Kahle rug.  That's Andrea hiding in the background, but don't tell her she's back there.

Jane was working on some little applique sachets that she is going to fill with lavender.

I was working on my proddy sheep rug.  Hopefully I will get a little more hooked this weekend and share it with you soon.

This is P.  Just plain ole P.  She belongs to the daughter of That'll Do's Farmer Gal Marilyn.  She is 12 or 13 years old, a pug / pekingese mix.  She is just the cutest little thing!

Here's one of the other farm dogs, a sweetheart named Grady.  She is so well behaved!!!  There are more farm dogs.  Hopefully next time I will get them on "film".

The weather here on Ohio's north coast has improved somewhat ~ at least enough to get a bit of yard work done.  We've made it all the way to 58 degrees and it is not raining.  Woo hoo!  I am so far behind so I'd better get off this darned machine and get busy.

In My Garden ~

Just a few pictures

taken today in my gardens.

The sun is actually shining

though it is windy and quite chilly.

Overnight we had high winds

that caused damage to many trees,

but we are so fortunate

compared to so many other parts

of our country.

Please say a prayer for those

who suffered such devastation.

Jake's last swim class was yesterday.

I tried to get a good picture of him

in his Sponge Bob swim trunks.

Obviously, he was not cooperating!

Little boys can be such goofballs!

Tonight is hooking at the farm.

I hope to make some progress

on my proddy sheep rug.
