Cross Stitch Goodies from the Attic ~

Welcome friends!
As some of you may recall, I mentioned that I really hadn't done any cross stitch in over twenty years and recently have gotten the itch to stitch. I headed to the attic and brought down this ratty old box. (Sorry, I didn't know it was dust covered until viewing the picture.) I was quite amazed at all the forgotten "treasures" I found.
A few frames...
A needlework coaster/ash tray. I guess that's no longer politically correct.
A partially finished cross stitch piece. The female companion was just barely started.
This is what they are supposed to look like. I know I will never finish these!
An assortment of fabrics ~ mostly linen.
Does anyone remember linen band?
Merrily Beams was one of my favorite sampler designers. Has anyone heard anything of her in recent years?
Lots of Prairie Schooler Santas and other Christmas charts.
A few reproduction samplers from The Scarlet Letter...
...and reproduction samplers from The Exemplary.
One of my favorites...
...and the almost finished sampler.
More reproduction samplers...
...and yet more.
Miscellaneous samplers...
There are so many more charts I did not even look through. In my lifetime, if I never bought another chart, I could never stitch all of these! I'm sure many of you bloggers could put me to shame with your cross stitch "treasures".
Instead of blogging, I should be stitching!
Pug hugs :)

More of my Get-Away

Welcome friends. Thank you so much for stopping by and taking the time to read my ramblings.
This is the bed and breakfast my friend Wink and I stayed at in little Amanda, Ohio. The Dum family built the house and the current owner is Anna Ford.
It is a beautiful home! Oh, how I would love to live in a historic house like this.
A very unusual antique cupboard with pull out bins in the bottom.
Here's Anna hard at work preparing our breakfast. Both days the breakfast was phenomenal.
Such a beautiful presentation.
Friday evening we ventured out to Miller's Antiques in Carroll, Ohio. This log cabin is one of their outbuildings.
A few pictures from in their shop.

Linda Miller allowed us in her home, a beautiful log cabin. In the darkness, I could not capture a picture of the outside. Linda was so gracious ~ and trusting. She allowed us to wander (and drool) inside her home while she went back out to the shop.
Her fridge is hidden in this cupboard.

I believe this is Machiavelli.
My dear friend Wink. There had been a table in front of the settle but it had just been sold.
The first thing seen as you entered the house was the buttery.

I love this reproduction rug. I didn't think to ask if Linda had hooked it.
One of the downstairs fireplaces. I believe there were three.
A sweet little sampler.

I hope you've enjoyed my little tour of the Miller's antique shop and home.
Pug hugs :)

Please tell me ~ ~ ~

that Thanksgiving is not in eleven days...
even if you have to lie to me :)
How is it possible?
I've seen Christmas trees decorated
and lit in peoples' houses for a couple weeks.
Are these the same people
who take their tree down on December 26?

Remember when we were kids
(well, some of you may remember)
that the Christmas season started after Thanksgiving?

I've read of a number of bloggers
who are already decorated.
I'll start my decorating
after my out of town family leaves after Thanksgiving.

For most of December
I will stress myself out
and make myself crazy.
I'll just never learn!

Pug hugs :)

Simple Goods ~

Welcome friends. Thank you so much for dropping by.
As you may have read on many other blogs, last Saturday was the Simple Goods show in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. For those of you who have not read about it, it is a very primitive antique/craft show. Here are some random pictures.
Isn't he a dapper looking vendor?

There were wonderful antiques at the show, but overall, I found the prices to be extremely high. In the picture below, kind of in the center to the right of the shelves, the little "looking glass" had a price tag of $795 if I remember correctly. There was also a $2000 hour glass, probably 8" tall overall. Ordinary crocks that can normally be found for $20 - $25 were around $40 each. Maybe all the bargains were bought by the people who stood in line in freezing temps for 2 hours before the show opened!

I really didn't get these. I think they were a take on the old German trees that were wrapped in cotton batting, but these were just twigs partially wrapped in batting in a rusty can with a $42 price tag.

This had to be one of my favorite items at the show. What a fun sprinkler!
Most of the booths had their wares displayed beautifully.

Isn't this fun?
I just love this piece. I think it would be considered a crock or bucket bench.
I only purchased a couple items at the show. This was a great old basket I bought for $25.
In the wooden bowl are some seed pods I also purchased. The vendor knew nothing about them. She said she bought a whole box of them. They are real seed pods, but my guess is they came from China or India :) The little brown crock I purchased at one of the antique shops we stopped at, and the large 19th century breadboard was a gift from my friend Wink. More on our other adventures in another post. The woven towel in the back is from the VERY talented Pat over at Hook, Hand and Heart.
Simple Goods is a very nice show and I know I will go back. This was the second time I've attended the show, but my purchases have been few. Overall I don't consider my style of decorating primitive, so perhaps that is the reason I've left nearly empty-handed.
{{I hope I've not offended any die hard primitive folk!}}
I did meet Karen from My Colonial Home. She is just as cute and sweet in person as she is on her blog!
In my next post I'll share a couple of wonderful antique shops and an 1840 bed and breakfast.

Take a moment...

...to thank a veteran.
Please say a prayer
for the members of the military,
serving so bravely,
so that we may be free.
Hugs :)

What Happened....

...to the last week? I was going to do a quick post before I ran away for the weekend, but I ran out of time. Tonight I was going to post about my weekend, but I've run out of time. I thought I'd better post something before you all forget who I am...lol!
Just a quick Linnie update. We are doing pretty good. She really is a sweet girl who just has an occasional poop issue :) She just breaks my heart but seems to be happy and adjusting to life with me. She does look quite comfortable, doesn't she? {{I hope when I am old and decrepit, someone will still love me....sigh.}}
Pug hugs :)

A Quote by Abraham Lincoln ~

...and I hope you did, too.
I received this in an email today from Judi and the boyz (her 3 pugs) in Florida.
Thank you, Judi. I thought it very appropriate.

"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage
by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them,
what they could and should do for themselves."
... Abraham Lincoln
God Bless America!
