I am notoriously bad at not going to my worm basket when I am hooking unless I am hooking a hit and miss. I just find it easier to pull uncut pieces of wool. This time I was determined to use some of the worms because they just seem to multiply!
I pulled all my lightest value worms and put them in a smaller basket and used these to hook my background. I was going to be very random and just pick one and use it. Well, I'd stick my hand in and pick one and decide that one wasn't "just right" and go in search of a slightly different shade.
Now that I've taken a picture, I see that I need to add a slightly darker value worm or two around the tail feathers and below the breast. I probably used at least a dozen different wools and like the way it turned out. The little mat is about 8 1/4" x 11 1/4".
I can't believe another weekend is over! Thanks so much for stopping by.
Pug hugs :)

I like the way he is now, looks good with the mix of light and dark and the bird is a beautiful blue shade.

It is a nice little blue bird.
I like how it turned out.
Cute little guy. I always say I'm just gonna pull a random strip from the basket and use it, but I end of rifling for the "right" one. Glad I'm not alone!
I had to smile....it must be the definition of the rug hookers "random".....almost, nearly, occasionally random, with a little tweak here and there! Love it.
Such a great lil' birdie I would leave it just like it is!!!
I think he is adorable! The light one by his tail might be a little bright, but that's the joy of a hit and miss background. :-) I wouldn't change a thing.
love your little bluebird! I was wondering where you got te pattern? Your pugs are adorable too!

Hello Lauren, oh I love the little chubby Bluebird so,great job. I find it easier also to have the worms in a basket, like that idea, Blessings Francine.
Your little blue bird is super cute!! You inspire me to want to learn to hook every time I read your blog!!
Cute little mat ~ bravo to you for using your worms! They multiply you know!
OMG! That little blue bird is so dang cute! :-)

Very sweet little tweet! Funny bit about getting picky about the random worms though!
Hugs,
Courtney
Too cute, Lauren!! Love the adorable bird...is it your pattern?
I can relate to your "random" worm choices...I'm afflicted, too! No matter how hard I try to be random, I reject several worms before I find the perfect "random" strip!! LOL
Hugs,
Linda
Love the color of your little birdie!

I think your worms worked their magic ~ that soft background is gorgeous. And the pudgy bird is adorable.
Lauren - I like the scrappy look of your background, but I bet you didn't make much of a dent in your worm basket, huh? LOL
It turned out adoarble. How fitting feeding the little bird your extra worms..smile...Blessings!~Amy
Lauren, He is so cute love the colors and the wing looks good.
Hi Lauren~
Love your little bird rug.
Becky
Your little bluebird mat is so cute! I once had a teacher tell me that when hooking with worms, you only get 3 strikes, and you have to use your third worm.
Hugs,
Melinda
One of my very bestestest friends is a hooker... she's given me countless lessons......I don't know why I can't do it. Well, I can hook just fine, but all the shading and such seems to elude me... love your birdie.
Blessings,
Spnecer
That would be Spencer.......my fingers don't always cooperate. :-)
I had to laugh when you mentioned second guessing the color of the worm you pulled out and went for another ~ that is totally me.
I like your birdie mat.
Saundra
Cute~
Oh....Lauren...such a sweet tweetie!! Love that folky shape!! And your background is gorgeous....but, oh yeah....so get the OCD "randomness." Hit and miss? YEAH right! ;o) Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin (PS - Just looked at your previous post comments to make sure I had left one....(duh)....Oh my....Edyth O'Neill commented....I am so humbled.....You're not gonna forget about us commoners now, are ya??? ;o)
