Just Saturday ~

What can I say?  It's Saturday ~ got up earlier than I had planned but I still got to sleep in.  5:30 rolls around much too early on weekdays.  I found this on Facebook.  If that isn't the truth.  Fits me to a T.

Do you ever cheat like this?  I'm whipping my rug (sounds kind of kinky to me) with this wonderful wool yarn from Ali Strebel, but no matter how hard I try, the linen backing sometimes peeks through on the corners.  Just barely, but it still bothers me, so I get my trusted black Sharpie and color the corners.  Works like a charm :)

Yesterday after work, DSO and I headed to an antique show about 45 minutes from home. Friday afternoon/evening is a very strange time to start an antique show, don't you think?  I was so disappointed.  Not many dealers and not much quality IMHO.  There was one good dealer there with wonderful stuff, but nothing screamed at me to buy it.  My one purchase was this little rug hook measuring not quite 4" long.  $3.00.  BIG SPENDER :)
It is sitting on a little hooked mat by Bonnie Stahl that was hooked in 2007.  It is numbered and though I can't read it, it is over 1,000.  I bought several of her hooked mats on eBay years ago. Does anyone know if she's still hooking?  I did a Google search and didn't find anything.

I hope your Saturday is wonderful.  The sun has peeked out a few times today.  It is chilly bordering on cold ~ but it's NOT snowing.
Thanks for stopping by.
Pug hugs :)
Lauren

Hey Lauren!! How are you doing? The show next weekend in Holly won't be disappointing!! Sounds like Dawn has some fabulous dealers...I'm hoping to see you on Friday...can't make it on Saturday. Love the rug hook and I have the same problem with binding. I usually have to go back and double up on my whipstitching....such pain!

Maybe the show was skimpy because people had already picked out all the good stuff....except for the hook. And YES, I've used a sharpie to hide the foundation too. Hey, hookers have to do what works for them.

Yup, I've done the sharpie trick too. I had to look twice because at first I thought you said you paid $300..... After I blinked in shock a few times I realized it was $3.

I haven't been to a show for awhile. Hate paying the entry fee only to find nothing. I'm hoping our latest storm misses us. Warm Blessings! Amy

Love the flower piece, nice design and the blacks look gorgeous for the background. I usually whip more on the edges and tuck the edge as I go, but I also roll my excess backing and that helps.

No Lauren, you are sharp... I never used a sharpie to blacken my corners, I whip my rugs like a fake pro... lol...

Better luck on your next antic hunt.

I have don't the sharpie thing and someone told me to wrap the corner in a piece of black wool. Love the little hook you found.
we had a beautiful day here but alas it is back to the cold for the rest of the week.

Your hook looks maybe like a Hartman....great find! Yes, I've used the Sharpie trick several times. Now I pretty much just use the wool covered cording....so much easier, and I don't even like to sew, but I think it beats whipping :)

Even worse, Lauren, is when you find about 10 things that you can't live without, but your wallet says, "No."

Good old Sharpies...worth their weight in gold! Just about everyone has tried the Sharpie solution, I'd wager, so don't feel badly about it.

LOVE the little flower rug!

That little flower mat is so cute! That almost looks like a hartman hook, so $3 is a steal!

I never thought about the whipping part of the rug hooking we do before until you said anything, then I sat here and laughed and laughed. That is hilarious.
I love that little mat and I am glad you had such a nice Saturday.
I hope you have a nice Sunday, thank you for the laugh.

Lauren - I have used my wonderful SHARPIE on more things than I can count! It's an amazing tool.
I need to learn how to do that kind of binding. I have the wool yarn - but don't know what size / kind of needles to use...can you tell me please!

Hi came across your blog looking for Bonnie Stahl hooked rugs on the net. I do not believe she is still hooking, maybe some for herself. And yes, she has hooked over 1,000 rugs! pretty amazing, love her work.
