I had to cry "UNCLE". My goal was to hook my Chicken Challenge rug using only worms I had in my stash. When I started on the background, I soon realized I had nowhere near enough antique blacks/darks. Rather than go to my larger pieces of wool, I went to my wire laundry basket, dug around and pulled all the small scraps of dark I could find.
The largest piece I cut was about 4" wide.
The background. I am probably about half done with the rug. It really is a fun hook.
This morning it was a balmy 0*. Now that's cold, but not nearly as cold as the -34 Lori from Homespun Prims said was their morning temperature. I can't even imagine and I don't want to find out how cold that really is - EVER.
There are signs of spring in northern Ohio. My daffodils are popping out of the ground . . .
. . . and my snowdrops have buds.
Do you think Ellie is just a bit spoiled? This was taken this morning. What a life :)
Thanks so much for stopping by. I'm so happy it's the weekend. I always say a bad weekend at home is better than a good week at work.
Pug hugs :)

Love the background in your rug. It was =20 here this morning, how I wish I could see some daffs coming up, alas, it will be several more weeks till then.

I never stick to my hit and miss ideas, always want to control it a bit;) I love how the colors look on the background, those were perfect choices.

You are amazing with what you can come up with!! :) And Ellie looks very happy with her life. I wish I was her right now, instead of here at work!
that's my very favorite kind of background to hook - it looks great!
Love your rug!! And pupper!
You have such a way to make posts so upbeat and it is fun to read your blog. Those left overs are the best backgrounds to hook with. UH....saying this I'm reminded of frustrations with other rugs and commission rugs. sigh.

I think Miss Ellie, has the right idea.
Lauren, your Chicken rug looks wonderful and I love the colors.
Sunnie and I have just started a new challenge group today on Rug Hooking Daily entitled The Great Deworming Stash Marathon and I hope that you'll take a peek and maybe join us on the challenge.
You are lucky about seeing daffodils popping out of the ground. That must feel so good. Mine are still under mountains of snow.
HUgs,

I am so glad it is the weekend too. We are so cold here too we are about 6 degrees right now and didn't get above 20 all day with a very good wind behind it.
we can't see the ground let alone see signs of spring.
ugh I need some warm weather.
you rug looks great.
Cathy
Your background is looking great Lauren! And Ellie isn't spoiled....she's just a happy, contented girl. We got up to 8 above today. I had fun working on a np. Hugs, Lori
Good background! Love the rug!
Those daffodils better think twice!
Another blasted snowstorm is coming our way.
Your chicken rug is looking fabulous! You are very lucky to be able to see your daffys popping up... ours are still under the old snow from weeks ago... with more coming Monday. A positive is, I don't think NJ will see -34... yowzers that's frigid!
The background looks perfect, Lauren! Can't wait to see your finished rug.
Oooh your rug is looking wonderful! I love the chicken and the background...and I really love the two little green trees! Ellie is a sweetie...she seems to know how to relax and enjoy the moment! After the week we had around here, I'd like to crawl in bed and stay there myself!
Stay warm! Yikes what a winter!
Robyn
Lauren,
Probably should not rub in that it is a lovely 76 degrees outside. Have one of my french doors to the backyard open to enjoy the fresh air.
I haven't planted much since I bought this place so it was a real treat to discover the shoots coming up along my back fence put out daffodils! First time they bloomed and i love how they look!

Hi Lauren. I so love that rug. Looks wonderful.
I would say that Ellie is spoiled, she is beautiful. We have so much snow here in Ontario, I couldn't see my daffodils even if they were starting to come out. It has so cold here with tons of snow, just like Michigan has. Have a great week my friend.
