I've decided to do the Chicken Challenge that I read about here on Saundra's blog or you can read more about it here. I had mine enlarged to about 14" x 29".
. . . and then bought this one from friend Melissa at Sauder. This rug is 22" x 43". I've not yet hooked anything that big.
I also had planned on getting back to this UFO ~ Whatnots, a pattern from Woolley Fox. I started it in the summer of 2012 at the Heavens to Betsy camp at Shaker Village. I don't know why it got put aside. I had lofty goals this year. I was going to spend one week a month hooking on it until it was done. Maybe next month . . . sigh.
Anyway, back to the CC rug. I will probably hook it similar to the original, but my real challenge is that I am going to ONLY use worms that are in my stash ~ no cutting allowed. I thought I would have a problem with greens, but when I was a new hooker, I spent more than a small fortune on eBay buying already cut wool. I bought so much bad wool, but being a newbie, I had no idea it was bad :( . I got rid of lots of it, but kept the best of it. Supposedly it is an 8 cut, but some appear narrower. Anywho . . . I will use that for the trees if needed. After having hooked with a wider cut, I don't even like to hook with an 8.

I'm not sure if I'll have time to hook this evening, but I will get started separating worms by color.
Last night we got about another 6" of snow but tomorrow we will be getting warmer temperatures, so instead of getting calls at work about snow, we will be getting calls about flooding. It just cracks me up. At least 50% of the calls I got today were from senior citizens who had a doctor's appointment and we NEVER plow their streets ~ and we DELIBERATELY put the snow at the end of their driveway and none of their neighbors. Some callers truly believe the plow drivers pick and choose where the snow comes off the plow :)
Thanks so much for stopping by.
Pug hugs :)

I want to do the chicken challenge rug too but it's way down on my list...
took me about twelve tries to get out of my driveway today...if some of that some didn't melt while I was at work I'm in trouble!
Wow, Lauren, you sure are an ambitious hooker. Good luck with the Chicken Challege. I'm sticking with finishing my cat quilt wall hanging that I started ages ago. I'm almost done. If I could stay off the darn computer, I's be done by now.
Looking forward how you are going to do this chicken challenge. Anything goes.
Hugs,
JB
OMG, I was reading and laughing MAO. We rug hookers DO have an addiction problem with patterns and wool. It does my heart good to know that I'm not the only one with this problem.
Work on your UFO for a while until I can get my Chicken Challenge going. Heck, I'm having to wait to start mine and am working on the dang geo UFO.
XOXO Saundra
Hey Lauren, what fun the chicken challenge is, love all your work, Blessings Francine.
I've got the chicken challenge on my to-do list also. Not sure when I will get to it though. I admire your personal challenge to do it without cutting. Do you know how many times I have tried that?? Have I ever succeeded?? Nooooo. I'm hanging my hopes on you Lauren :)
Oh and I work for a municipality too and the snow plow complaints can get hysterical. One year an old man tried to pull the driver out of the cab after he passed his driveway!
I'm too chicken to do the chicken challenge.....or perhaps too crow?? ;o) Seriously....I be the WORST hooker around. Never did get more than a few worms put in that heart thingy....no punching either....and stitching piece stitched but not "finished." I truly would like to get back to my welcome cat rug one of these days....now that I've forgotten what wool was going to go where. That's quite a worm farm you have going on there....I think the colors will be amazing from what I see. Yes, we had a "warming" here in Nod too today....It got above freezing (it was supposed to get to 36, not sure if it did or not)....just enough to make slop of some of the 6+ inches we got yesterday and freeze tonight....and now they're saying up to another 12" on Thursday. I wish there were buses in Nod....I'd be on one.... Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
You are going to be one busy hooker, Lauren! You have to LOVE the process in rug hooking...finished projects never come fast enough. Enjoy!
Lol...people are funny. I used to deliver mail to rural homes and people used to call the Post Office if something they were expecting to receive in the mail did not arrive "on time." They just KNEW that I was keeping their bills and stockpiling them in my house. Why would I want their bills?!!
Hugs, Linda
Gizzard, gizzards every where! I like that you are using only worms for your challenge. Can't wait to see what you come up with. Hook on!
Thanks for sharing ! Count me in for the chicken challenge too. I too have a bazillion eBay worms! That's so funny, thought I was the only one!!! Hugs and stay warm!!!
