A Different Kind of Give~Away

Happy Times in Florida

Actually, it's more like a raffle ~ meaning it's going to cost you . . . lol!  Let me explain.  A major fund raiser for Ohio Pug Rescue is the calendar that is published each year.  Their goal this year is to raise $5000.00.  Calendar pugs are chosen by the number of votes they receive and the top twelve vote getters are in the calendar.  Eema and Cher are trying to make the calendar.  As most of you know, Eema has a malignant tumor and it would mean so much to me and mom Dolly for her to make the top twelve!!!  Votes are $1.00 each.

It is very simple.
  • Click on "click here to vote"
  • Scroll down and find Eema and Cher
  • Click on "buy votes"
  • Pay via PayPal or by check (to the address listed on the voting page)
If you buy five or more votes for Eema and Cher, I will enter you in a drawing for a small hooked mat.  If more than five people buy five votes for them, I will draw a second name.

These are the mats the winner(s) can choose from.

This one will be finished!

It's that simple.  Voting ends July 1.  I will have no way of knowing if you have entered the give-away, so you must email me and put give-away in the subject line.

I would greatly appreciate it (and so would Dolly and Eema and Cher) if you would even cast one vote for them.  Come on ~ it's only a dollar a vote.  Each and every vote will help them become calendar girls!!!

Ohio Pug Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit all volunteer (no one earns a cent!).  Your donation is tax deductible.

Kingwood Hook-in ~ Part One

Saturday was the hook-in at Kingwood Center in Mansfield, Ohio.  This wonderful hook-in is a gift to hookers from the oh-so-generous and talented Katie of Kidl'-de-Divey Woolens.  The setting is beautiful and all the homemade goodies she provided were very yummy.  Thank you, Katie!!!
Her theme this year was a baby shower.  We were asked to bring the first rug we hooked.  Below is a sampling of the rugs.  It is hard to believe some of these rugs were the first rug hooked.  Their first rug looks better than my 60th!

A silent auction of donated items netted almost $800 for the Ashland Crisis Pregnancy Center.

Kingwood Center is a former private estate that is now a public garden.  Here is a sampling of the succulents and cacti in the greenhouse.

Thank you so much for stopping by.  I have lots more to share from the hook-in in another post.

Eema Update & a Couple of Rugs ~

I got an Eema update from Mom Dolly.  The tumor has grown a bit, but she is not showing signs of being ill.  Dolly reports that she is still experiencing a good life and enjoying her days.  These pictures were taken just a few days ago.  Here she is trying to get a treat from her Kong.  Eema loves her treats!

Playing with her "mousie".

Enjoying the sun on the deck!

As if Dolly hasn't enough to deal with, Eema's Ohio Pug Rescue sister Cher is also having some issues with her knee caps.  Dolly is supposed to keep Cher calm and not let her jump or do stairs.  Good luck with that!  The first time I met Cher, I said she acted like a pug on drugs.

Last night was hooking at the library.  I only got a couple of pictures before my camera battery died.  I hate when that happens.  Here's Sylvia's rug ~ very bad color but what fun.  The circles are all rolled wool.

Andrea is working on the chicken rug that was started at camp.

Here's lookin' at you kid!

I finished the hooking on my little eagle mat.  I'm happy with the way it came out.  Now to get it bound and to my BFF ~ UGH!  (Not the BFF part, the binding part.)

There is a hook in this Saturday at Kingwood Gardens in Mansfield, Ohio.  I really haven't planned my next rug and do not have time to do so in the next day and a half, so on a leftover piece of linen, I drew up a pumpkin and will have room for another small mat or two.  I guess that's what I'll take with me, though I know I won't do much hooking!

Please say a prayer for a very dear friend.  Both Judy and her hubby Neal were very special friends to both Fritz and me.  Neal went to meet his Katie and Sadie at the Rainbow Bridge.  My heart aches for Judy.  I'm sure your prayers would be greatly appreciated.

If a Dog Was the Teacher . . .

Loocie ~ Queen of the Jungle

. . . you would learn things like:

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

Take naps.

Stretch before rising.

Run, romp, and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you're not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY!

Whole Lot of Nothin'

Welcome, dear friends.  Another weekend is almost behind us.  I keep wondering where the time is going.  Don't you feel that way, too?
My new foster has been with me for just over two weeks.  Her name is Harmonica, but I simply call her Mo, or Mo Mo.  She has settled in quite nicely.  She is a very laid back seven year old though that very grey face makes her look older.  Her ear infection seems to be clearing with the meds, but I'm not sure about her suspected UTI.  She has been on meds for about 10 days, but still urinates much more than any female I have had.  She is a real sweetie, though, and takes care of her "business" outside.  She has her bursts of energy, and then must rest to recover.  Here she is just a short time ago on the computer room couch.

Yesterday was a beautiful day weather wise here on Ohio's north coast.  I got some much needed yard work done (though of course there is so much more left to do!).  We had a cookout over at DSO's and then took his sailboat out.  We don't fish, but Jake and a 10 year old named Jordan wanted to fish from the boat, so we motored out past the breakwall.  The boys didn't catch any fish (though my son did catch a walleye) but they had a ball trying.

In the far left background is the Lorain, Ohio lighthouse, known as the jewel of the port.

A very belated thank you to Teri over at White Sheep Farm for the give~away she hosted.  I got lucky and won these gorgeous red, "dirty" white and blue wools from Wool-n-Wares.  A Polly Minnick book was also part of the give~away, but I declined since I already have a copy.  Thank you so much, Teri!!!

I sent Robin from over at the Cranky Crow  a little something and even though I wanted nothing in return, she  sent me these wonderful goodies (and a little Got Wool? magnet that I didn't show.)  The little enamelware snippet dish is just too cute and even though she didn't make the sheep, it is very sweet with its cinnamon stick legs.  I got the better end of this deal!!!  Thanks, Robin :)

Last week I got brave again and took to the skies with my Sweetie (aka Fritz).  You are looking down on the east side of Lorain and just above the edge of the wing on the right is the former shipyard where he lives.

Making our final approach to the runway . . .

. . . and getting ready to touch down.
The second flight was a bit less nerve wracking for me, but I have a long way to go before I feel comfortable.

Today's weather is less than ideal.  The temp has hovered around 60 degrees all day, it is cloudy, dreary and damp and so I've frittered the day away on the computer.  (I hope you don't waste spend as much time blog surfing as I do ~ I need a 12-step program), done a little hooking, reading, etc.  Hopefully I can soon show you the finished eagle mat.  It's small so it should be done soon though it should have been done at the end of May.  The story of my life . . .  a day late and a dollar short.
Thank you so much for stopping by.

Favorite Shade of Red ~

Kindergarten graduation was this week.
It was held on the shores of Lake Erie
at Lakeview Park.
It was the perfect, sunny day!

Grandson Jake received his diploma ~
and a certificate for perfect attendance
the fourth quarter.
He was one happy camper.

Here's what is on my frame.
I needed a birthday gift
for a BFF.
I thought I would get it done quickly.
Well  . . . .
It's been on the frame for a week
and this is all I've gotten done.
It's amazing how little I hook
when I am not excited about a project.
But maybe, just maybe . . .
if I get this finished
I can start something
that will inspire me!

Of course,
there is much yard work left to do
and once it's done
it's time to start all over again!

This Week in the Garden ~

First ~ A very heartfelt thank you for all the sweet comments on my last post.  Eema is very special ~ to both Dolly and me.
* * * * *
With all the rain we've had, everything is very lush and green.  I've spent some time working in the yard ~ finally!  There is still much to do.  This year I must get some mulch!  It's on my very long "to do" list.  Here's what's blooming this week.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
