Hookin' at the Library ~

Last night was the monthly hooking at the library.  It was a small, but very talented group of hookers.  Karin hooks the most amazing rugs.  Check her out on eBay.  Her seller ID is primitivespirits.  She bought all the wool just a few weeks ago at the Kingwood hook-in from Heavens to Betsy to hook this background.  I wish I could have captured the true colors!  Here's a close up of the horse . . .

. . . and the finished rug ~ already bound!

Here's what she is currently working on.  I love it!

Arlene is working on a slightly different horse than Karin, but plans to hook a similar background.  The shape of the horse is from an antique rug.

I had seen Jackie, but never actually had the pleasure of meeting her before last evening.  She is nearing completion on "the lion and the lamb".  She is going to take out the wool roving she used on the lamb and replace it with yarn, I believe..

I hadn't seen Donna in a very long time.  She usually does not come to the evening get togethers.  It was good to see her!
Aren't these houses too cute?

I absolutely love the blue and browns she used in this little rug.  She was spending her time binding it.

This is the rug I started working on last evening.  It should be an "easy hook".  We'll see.  I'm undecided if I like the wool I am using to hook the wascally wabbit.

Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you will come again soon!

This 'n That ~ ~ ~

After many weeks, Mo is finally done with all her meds.  With that being said, she is now on the ready to adopt list.  She may find her forever home in a week or it could be many months.  I think once someone gets a look at her beautiful face, her forever home will come sooner rather than later.  Her ears have finally cleared up, but she will probably always have ear issues due to years of untreated ear infections.  This is her serious look . . .

. . . and here she is smiling at the world!

I picked up a few goodies at the antique show in Milan on Sunday.  I haven't bought any treen pieces in a long time, but came home with these two barrel-shaped containers.  I also found a smaller version of the funnel I purchased in PA.

I like to use old figural Christmas bulbs as ornaments on the tree.  They have gotten so expensive, so when I found this cat playing a mandolin (?) reasonably priced, I had to add him to my collection.

I got all three of these tintypes for only $2.00.  On the back of one was a sticker that said "Aunt Pet. and Uncle Jim Young".  I have my doubts about the veracity of that because it was on what appears to be a modern Avery label.  I'm not sure what I will do with them, but instant ancestors can be fun!

{{I did find a few other treasures but can't show them because they are gifts.}}

I am happy to announce that Fritz has reached Petaluma, CA in the RV-12.  Thank you so much for all his birthday wishes.  He told me I had some really wonderful people reading my blog :)  (And I agree 100%!)
Thank you so much for stopping by.

Fritz's BIG Adventure ~

You probably recall me bragging telling you that my DSO Fritz built an airplane..  It took about 2 years and finally took to the skies last fall.  (Watching his first flight was SO scary!)

Here he is last Tuesday morning getting ready to set off on his BIG ADVENTURE.  His goal is to fly from Ohio to Petaluma, CA to visit his younger son Matt, by way of Phoenix, AZ.  Yesterday he reached the first part of his goal.  He is spending a couple days with a childhood friend in Phoenix before heading to Petaluma.

Do I worry about him?  You betcha, but I am so proud of what he is accomplishing.  He says it's the adventure of a lifetime and I am so happy he is able to do it!  Oh, and today's his birthday.  Happy birthday, Fritz!!!

Thursday in the Garden ~

Blooming today in the garden  ~

A big thank you to all who entered
the calendar girls give-away.
Cathy D, a former co-worker
was the first name drawn and
chose the hooked crow mat.
was the second winner.
3936 votes were cast and
Ohio Pug Rescue has that much more
cash to pay vet bills.
(Vet bills for the month of June
totalled more than $7000.)

I have decided to suspend my goals list
for the rest of the summer.
It is just too busy of a time.
Look for it to return
in the fall :)

Just a reminder to anyone within
driving distance of Milan, Ohio.
There is a wonderful antique show
on the town square
this Sunday, rain or shine.
It is a quality show but a few bargains
can be found.
Best of all,
there is no admission charge!

A Few New Treasures ~

Tonight I'll share a few of the treasures I purchased on my PA get~away.  Friend Wink spotted the tops ~ 3 red, white and blue and one blue and white one.  She graciously passed on them so they came home with me.  (The fourth one is with some other patriotic items.)

The little tin funnel makes a great flag holder for the 48 star flags I already owned.

This is a wooden measure.  It measures two different quantities depending on whether it is used this way or turned upside down.  It rests on a little stool I purchased to hook a mat for.

I keep purchasing lidded baskets with the intention of hooking little mats for the top.  I'm getting quite the collection of baskets ~ but I still haven't hooked the first topper :)

Just a sweet little blue granite cup.

My bargain of the year (perhaps decade!) was these 3 feather edge platters.  Yes they have some serious damage but they are good for stacking.  They were priced $12 for all three and were 20% off.  Woo hoo.  I love a bargain!!!

I also purchased a few birthday gifts and one Christmas present ~ a Currier and Ives print, probably not antique but based on the framing, definitely vintage.  Problem is I like it so much I just may keep it :)
Overall I was pleasantly surprised at the prices at the antique malls.  I found many items to be what I considered reasonable and there were bargains to be found.  Sure, there were things I thought were overpriced so they did not make the trip to Ohio with me.

A Fine Bunch of Hookers ~

Thursday, I had the privilege of meeting some wonderful hookers.  I stopped by Grant Street Woolworks in Chambersburg, PA and met Pat ~ Moments in Time, Doris ~ Wool Dyer, Joanne ~ Snippets and Scraps and Kathy ~ Woolfind.  Shop owner Linda was also very gracious.  They are just delightful and made me feel so welcome!!!  Kathy helped me choose some wool for my next project.  Hopefully I can start that soon!  You can read more about it on Joanne's or Kathy's blogs.  Thank you so much ladies.  I thoroughly enjoyed meeting all of you and hope I can one day visit again!

Pat, Doris, Joanne, Kathy
I was so impressed with downtown Chambersburg.  It had the most wonderful fountain in the center of town.  It's not often you see that, at least not in Ohio!  I'm assuming that is the top of the town hall with the fountain in the foreground.

I am home safe and sound and back to reality.  It sure was nice to escape for a few days :)

A big THANK YOU to all who cast votes for Eema and Cher.  They are officially calendar girls, having finished second with 455 votes!!!  WOO HOO!  I thank you from the bottom of my heart.  Give me a couple of days to get my act together and I will be drawing two names for the hooked mats.

Thanks also for stopping by and reading my blog.  I have made the best blog buddies and I appreciate you taking the time to read my ramblings.
Happy Fourth of July to you and your loved ones.
Be safe.
