Did I Need Another Pattern?

Well, of course not😂.  A few years ago I purchased this snowman pattern to hook and mount on a vintage ironing board.  I bet you know the answer to "did she actually hook it?".

So then I found this sweet Santa pattern from Woolen Heirlooms while at the Shipshewana hook in.  He is 38" tall.  I thought it would be perfect for the other vintage ironing board that I have, that actually was a built in in my grandma's kitchen.  I do remember seeing it there as a very young child.

So, will I get either hooked before that upcoming season that I won't even mention?  Your guess is about as good as mine.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

I Hate Change!!!

In October, my nine year old Windows 10 computer will be obsolete, so I needed to bite the bullet and upgrade to a new Windows 11 computer.  Since the first two weeks in August are tax free days in Ohio for purchases under $500, I figured better to buy sooner rather than later.  I found a great deal at a local independent store.  The young owner was so nice and really showed me how to navigate the new system.  According to him, differences are minor.  Trouble is when I got it home and DSO set it up, it was not as easy as it seemed to be at the store.  I am hoping I can actually get a blog post done.  Computer guy showed me a really easy way to download photos from my iPhone to my desktop (non Apple product), but of course it is not working for me!!!

So . . . I will see if I can muddle my way thru this.  I don't think anything has changed in the way I do my post . . . fingers crossed.

My son and his girlfriend have two Pomskies (can you believe a Pomeranian/Husky mix???).  They needed to go to southern Ohio for a celebration of life for girlfriend's uncle.  Normally they have a sitter who can watch them, but not this time.  Well guess who is dog sitting?  They are definitely cuties.

Zeke is the older of the two and looks the most like a Husky.  He is about three.

Zala (beautiful in Slovenian) is a year and a half old.

My son has a fenced in yard, so the Zs are not used to going on walks.  Since I don't have one, I am walking their little legs off.

That's it for today.  Hope this post posts okay.  Be back soon.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

The Rugs of Paula Shultz ~

Paula is an Indiana hooker and shop owner in Albion, Indiana.  She so graciously opened her shop to Sue and me before we headed to the hook in.  Well, darn!  I failed to take any pictures in her most adorable shop filled with wool, patterns, antiques and collectibles.

I did purchase this skater's lantern on the left.  Only one more until I have an official collection.  (Somehow I misplaced the wire handle on the lantern to the right I purchased a few years ago.)

Another treasure that came home with me was this sweet little tintype in a size I had never seen before.  The case is only 2" tall.

The photo is not in the best of shape, but I bought it mainly for the case.

Paula also gave us a tour of her home.  OH MY!!!  Truly primitive magazine worthy!!!  Thanks for the tour, Paula.

At the hook in, she gave a talk on her wool choices and her backgrounds.  She has a way with color like no one else.  Every rug was just perfectly primitive, and all the antique adaptations looked O.L.D.

Here is a sampling of some of the rugs she shared.

Paula's pattern.  Contact her to purchase.

Hooked in a class with Maria Barton.
She wanted help hooking the face.
I understand she finished the rug in a three day class.

Some day this antique adaptation
will be on my frame.

My pictures do not do her rugs justice!  You can contact her on Facebook.  If you are ever in northern Indiana, her shop, A Primitive Place, is open by appointment.  You will not be disappointed!

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Back to Reality ~

I'm home from another fun retreat/hook in!  Sue and I headed to Shipshewana for a couple days of hooking and camaraderie.  Pop on over to her blog to see the vendor booths (but ignore the last picture!!!).

Attendees were asked to bring a completed project or two to share and it didn't have to be a hooked item.  Here is a sampling of the hooked pieces.

This is just too sweet.

Check out the little knitting needles and knitted piece.

Sue's fun purse, beautifully finished.

My rug in the show.

This Santa rug got Best of Show and the People's Choice Award!  Deservedly so!

Punch needle pieces ~

The punch needle version of Proud Lion which I am hooking.

Needle felted.  This must have taken forever.  I'm guessing it was nearly an inch thick.

And last but not least, a mixed media piece.

More to share in my next post.
Thanks so much for stopping by.

Hook-y Stuff ~

I've hooked but as usual not as much progress as I had hoped for!

This is cigar box #9 for me . . . and I've committed to one more that has not yet been started or even planned.  Our guild puts on a wonderful hook in and I want this one to be just as much fun with lots of goodies to give away as door prizes.

The inside is rather uninspiring!

I am pleased with the progress made on my Classic Santa pattern from the Donna Hrkman class.  (As usual, no matter how many pictures I take, the color is so wrong 😡)  A bit challenging is an understatement.  I am going against Donna's wishes and hooking with some 7 cuts, which is still much smaller than I normally use 😁

And finally, progress on Proud Lion.  I have been stumped on the color to hook his body.  The overdyed wool chosen by the teacher has lots of pink tones in it.  I am NOT a pink person.  I thought maybe I "borrowed" some body wool from this project???  Had a different lion body color been chosen?  It's been so many years ago, I really haven't a clue.

Tomorrow Sue and I are off to a couple day hook in over in Shipshewana, Indiana.  Sue is great with color so hopefully she will find the perfect lion body color for me!

See you when I return.
Thanks so much for stopping by.

Senseless Act of Violence ~

I am sure many of you have heard of the senseless ambush of three police officers in Ohio.  It happened in the city where I live.  Two officers were sitting in their cars having lunch when ambushed.  A third officer came to assist and was also shot.  I know it happens everywhere, but not this close to home.  One 35 year old officer has  succumbed to his injuries.

What the hell is wrong with people?  The shooter was 28 years old and lived in the city.  Now he is dead.  What must his family be going through?  How does a parent wrap their head around such a heinous crime?  I know these are all rhetorical questions to which we will probably never have answers.

Please keep the families of the officers in your prayers.  Pray for our city.
