Amish Hook In ~

ARGH!  I can't believe it's been a week since I last posted.  First let me say that I have been Fitbit obsessed.  For 37 days I made my 10,000 steps.  One day I did over 15,000 - a record for me.  Well I screwed up yesterday big time.  I was an hour in to my journey to the hook in when I realized it was at home being charged.  Oh, I was so upset with myself but could not justify adding two hours to my trip to retrieve it.  So much for my record.  No way could I get that many steps in starting at 5:30 pm.  I guess I'll just have to start over . . . sigh.

 

So ~ ~ ~ the hook in was wonderful as always.  Maria Barton was the featured hooker and I missed out on getting in her class.  My own fault but I was so bummed.  I've had a couple classes with her and she is just so much fun :)  I've hooked many of her rugs and did buy a couple patterns from her that I will share in my next post.  I can't believe I did not take any pictures of Maria's booth.  She has such a unique style.

 

The rug show was wonderful.  Lots of rugs and a few applique pieces.  Enjoy . . .

I Kid You Not ~

In today's newspaper magazine insert, there is an article on what people earn.  From the mountain safety host ($1637) to a famous actor (est $63 million).  The most bizarre I found ~ and I  kid you not ~ is the 33 year old female in Portland, Oregon, who is a "professional cuddler".  And what is that, you ask?  I quote, "I teach platonic touch in a one-on-one setting under the rules of Certified Cuddlers with the goal of creating a safe space for each person to feel accepted and loved just as they are!".  WTH??? And she is earning $59K a year!!!

 

I'm finally been back to working on my class rug (Connie Bradley - Wool Yankers) that I started early in March.  It is a small mat, only about 10" x 24".  I'm getting close.  The opposite side is done.  Just needs a little tweaking.  I normally don't round my corners, but decided to give it a try.  I think I will either bind this with wool or a crochet edge since it is small.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  Yesterday was too cold to get in the yard and this morning it was only 34*.  I mowed the lawn today, but needed to wear gloves most of the time.

FINALLY ~

 

. . . something to show you.  The hooking is done - woo hoo - but of course the steaming and binding will have to wait. 

 

I started this rug mid-February so it's taken me over two months to hook, but I did have two classes where I started new rugs.  (How's that for justification?)  Hopefully they will be the next rugs worked on.  This rug ended up being 31" x 45" ~ by far my largest rug to date.  I used lots of worms and small pieces of wool, but did not make a dent in them.  I swear they multiply at night while we sleep :)

 

As most of us know, it is so hard to get a good color picture of the rug with a digital camera.  This was taken outside in dappled sunlight.  It's pretty washed out, but you get the idea of how it looks, right?

 

I'm so happy to have the initial yard clean up done :)  Now to thin the perennials.  I have so many that have just taken over.

I've  still been busy with yard work so my scrappy crosses rug is not yet done.  I'm close.  Very close.  Just two more corners to go.  I'm not sure if I'm crazy about them, but I will learn to like them . . . lol.

Just {{can't}} Say No ~

 

Saturday, four of us drove from Ohio to Ann Arbor, MI for the annual hook in.  As usual, it was great.  The rug show was small, but loaded with talent.  Here are some of the hooked pieces displayed.  I used the same camera setting for all the pictures, but a few are so washed out.  I'm guessing it was the way the light was coming through the windows.

I just can't say NO to wool.  All the wool I bought was on sale except for the bottom piece of teal.  I have more wool than I can hook in three lifetimes, but I never have the right color.  I'm sure you TOTALLY understand . . . lol :)

These are all Anne Bond wools.  Little pieces I could not resist for just a dollar each. 

Another pattern.  (Why?  Because it was on sale.)  I would not hook it in these bright colors. 

Today the day was spent at the indoor amusement park with grandson Jake and his friend.  I got to sit on my butt all day while they rode the rides, but it still wore me out . . . lol.  They had fun so that's all that matters :)
