A Walk Around the Yard ~

With all the rain we've had this summer, the flowers are doing exceptionally well.  It is so nice to see green at this time of the summer without having to water much other than plants in containers.

I purchased three $.99 goldfish for my little pond. They all survived and have about quadrupled in size.  Not sure why, but the water plants are not doing too well.

What used to be a lovely hosta.  Damn deer!

Last weekend I stopped at a tag sale the third and final day.  I can't believe these two pieces of white ironstone were still there.  One is marked Johnson Brothers and the other Alfred Meakin.  I believe the piece on the left is a marriage.  The handle was broken and reglued, but it's still a good shelf piece.  The lidded dish on the right is perfect except for a bit of discoloration on the lid. The total for the two pieces ~ $8.00.  Oh, I LOVE a bargain.

Pug Butts :)

Ellie had a play date with a couple pugs this week. It didn't start off too well :(  I guess in her excitement she felt the need to poop in the middle of the kitchen floor.  That was a pretty rude way to start her visit.

This is Cher, an Ohio Pug Rescue pug adopted a few years ago. Dolly adopted her and my Eema a few days apart.  As many of you will remember, dear Eema passed away from cancer.  

When the time was right, Dolly adopted another pug, Pippa.  Though not from OPR, she was also a rescue.  Pippa and Ellie had a few "words", but then everyone pretty much ignored each other.  

I stayed with the girlz while Dolly picked up a pizza.  As soon as they heard they car pull in, the ran for the door to greet her . . . or was it the scent of pizza that got their attention?

DSO Fritz took off today to head to the big air show/fly in at Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  His first stop is in northern lower Michigan to visit a friend, and tomorrow he will continue his journey.  Safe travels, my sweetie :)

Coverlet Collection ~

Dear friend Wink has been collecting antique coverlets, mainly from Ohio, for many years.  I stitched this coverlet design for her in 1986 so she was collecting for at least several years before that. 

There is at least one coverlet on just about every chair.  They are also hanging on the wall, tucked in baskets, etc.  

The majority of her coverlets have a corner block.

This coverlet was purchased a couple years ago at an antique mall.  It was labeled a wool blanket and I think she said she paid $9.95 for it.  I'd say that was the buy of a lifetime!

Coverlet Museum Rug Show – Bedford, Pennsylvania

During the month of September, hooked rugs from around the country will be on display alongside the coverlets at the National Museum of the American Coverlet.  The history of hooked rugs is as varied as the history of coverlets. Both were used to dress up simple decor and add a splash of color.  And both are now coveted as a true art form and symbol of American life in the late 19th century.   The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday from 12 pm to 4 pm.  The rug show will be available to the public through a museum admission.

September 24 – 27, 2013

Rug Workshop with Barbara Carroll

Respected primitive rug hooking instructor Barbara Carroll will conduct a three-day rug workshop at the Coverlet Museum in Bedford, Pennsylvania. Workshop dates and times are:

Tuesday, September 24th from 1 pm to 3:30 pm

Wednesday, September 25th from 9 am to 3:30 pm (lunch provided)

Thursday, September 26th from 9 am to 3:30 pm (lunch provided)

Friday, September 27th from 9 am to 12 pm (lunch provided)

Students will hook one of over fifteen new rug patterns inspired by American woven coverlets and designed by Barbara Carroll along with Keith Kemmer. These patterns will be introduced at the Coverlet Museum in conjunction with the rug show, work shop, and hook-in. 

***All net proceeds from the rug workshop and hook-in as well as Barbara’s instructor fees will be donated to the Coverlet Museum.  

In addition, all net proceeds from the coverlet inspired rug patterns will be an on going benefit for the Museum.

September 27 – 28, 2013

Hook-In and Silent Auction at the Coverlet Museum, Bedford, Pennsylvania

Beginning on Friday afternoon and all day Saturday, hookers and fiber enthusiasts will come together for friendship and an opportunity to purchase awide selection of fiber-related merchandise from a variety of vendors. Watch our web page for photos of the silent auction rugs.  The hook-in on Saturday morning starts with an 8:30 am check-in and will continue from 9:00 am until 3:30 pm. Access to the museum’s coverlet collection and rugshow, lunch, and vendors is included with registration. The newest Woolley Fox coverlet rug patterns will be unveiled….see this wonderful new project.The proceeds of these fabulous new designs will be donated to the National Museum of The American Coverlet.

Unfortunately I can't make it for the workshop or hook-in, but I hope to make a quick trip to visit the rug show.

Back to Reality ~

My weekend getaway passed all too quickly.  It's always good to get away, but also good to get home.

This is Tallmadge Road Mercantile in Clayton, Ohio, a great primitive shop of 24 dealers.  Just as we were leaving a storm was rolling in.

My only purchase beside an old spool of white string (which I will use) is this little addition to my flock.  There were a few other items I considered and now am sorry I did not buy them. I guess that will be my excuse to head back down there sooner rather than later.

On the right is my dear friend Wink.  Can you believe we actually met in Spain MANY summers ago?  I was an undergrad student taking classes in Madrid and she was in the master's program. That's Melinda of Merry Wind Farm on the left. We've only met twice but it seems like I've know her forever, too :)  She lives in the most wonderful home, the earliest part built in 1804, I believe.  

Melinda is an incredible cross stitcher, rug hooker, seamstress, gardener. Her work is perfection and I was gifted this absolutely wonderful pin keep. Lucky me!!!  It is beautiful.  

Many years ago as a joke, I started Wink a salt and pepper collection.  The criteria for purchasing a pair was that they had to be cheap and tacky. You can read about it here.  In retaliation, she started me a shot glass collection.  Not just any old shot glass, but ones that were souvenirs of states.  This time I was gifted with Montana and Colorado.

She also gave me a little porcelain pot to add to my small collection.  I believe they are mostly English, and tooth powder, cold cream and the likes came in them.  

Two of Wink's grandbabies came to visit before I headed home on Sunday.  Savanah and Clayton are just a couple of cuties who are lucky to have such a sweet grandma!
