Time's a Flyin' ~

I can't believe I've been home from rug camp for a month.  This is what my rug looked liked when I left camp, and I'm sorry to say this is what it still looks like today :(  I have not even pulled one loop, but I hope that will change this evening!  (The colors are a bit washed out in the picture.)

I have been hooking ~ having a ball hooking pumpkins with hand torn strips.  I've hooked five of them.  These are about 13" wide and 12" tall with the stem.  Now if I will just finish them "Betsy style" before fall . . . sigh.  I'm just not very good with the finishing part.

I still have my Annie.  Quite a few events are coming up and hopefully she will find her furever family!  How could you not love this face?

Another week is almost over and August is coming to an end.  I am sitting here scratching my head wondering how that happened!

Last evening I met Lee from Falling Star Primitives.  I had bought a couple of her cross stitch patterns at "In the Spirit of Friends" show at Malabar Farm in years past, but I guess we had really not "met".  We live about an hour apart and decided to meet for dinner.  It was like getting together with an old friend!  What an enjoyable time we had.  She is a pattern designer, cross stitcher, rug hooker, does wool applique (wool appliquer?), etc.  Check out her website for some great patterns!  I swapped one of my necklaces for a couple of her patterns.  I think I got the better end of the deal :)  She also gave me some really cool notecards ~ photos of some of her stitcheries.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Featured Exhibit ~ Karl & Mary Jo Gimber

More from the Sauder Village rug show.

Karl & Mary Jo Gimber, Pennsylvania.
This husband and wife team have taken their mutual interest in American history and the love for all things old and translated it into hooked rugs. Together they have created more than 70 historic sign rugs, representing 1700’s – 1800’s tavern, trade, and farm signs, historic flags, gravestones, old weathervanes, and folk art, with political messages, historical references, religious themes, and humor.

The twelve months of hippos.  These were F-U-N!!!

A couple of my favorites.

Featured Exhibit ~ Barbara Carroll

Sauder Village ~ 2012
(No words necessary)

Boyertown Pups, which I LOVE, is a HUGE rug.  Perhaps 4' x 4' ?

Barbara's antique inspirations ~ from her collection.

What a treat to see Barb's rugs up close and personal!

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I have LOTS more of Sauder to share.

Pugs hugs to you this fine Sunday morn.  Annie and I are off to work the Ohio Pug Rescue booth at a greyhound event about an hour from home:)

A Good Day ~

I made my annual trek to the rug show at Sauder Village.  It is always so inspiring to see what others have hooked.  There are MANY talented hookers out there.  The day was spent enjoying the rug show, doing a little shopping and chatting with many friends I have met through hooking.

Ann from 1803 Ohio Farm Baskets and I made plans to meet for the first time.  Ann is an amazing basket weaver (and cross stitcher and rug hooker and who knows what else) and I asked that she bring one of her wool baskets for me.  Let me tell you, this basket is beautiful ~ and huge.  That stool is 18" wide so you can see how big it really is.  It will be perfect to carry supplies to hooking and will just look darned good sitting out at home.
I felt as if I was meeting up with an old friend.  (Well, I am the old part . . . lol!)  What a fun day we had together.  She is an absolute delight!  Of course I thought about taking a picture of her as she was driving out of the parking lot.

The funny thing is that I brought her a few pieces wool to add to her stash.  I put it in a red bag with crow tissue paper.  This is what she gave to me . . . a red bag with crow tissue paper.  How ironic is that?

And this was in my bag!!!  This is the other basket I wanted from her but thought I'd better only buy one since I knew I'd be buying some wool.  It is just the sweetest basket with the cutest clothes pin feet.  THANK YOU, ANN!!!  You can check out her wonderful creations in her etsy shop.  You won't be sorry!

Late in the afternoon they had what I believe was called a "moving" exhibit.  It was a challenge put to hookers to hook a mask.  Some people are very creative!

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I have LOTS more to share.
