It will grow back, right?

My four year old grandson, Jake, has the most gorgeous red hair.
Today when I picked him up to spend some fun time with him, he had a new haircut.

To say I was less than thrilled was a bit of an understatement, but I'm just the Grandma...lol! I have just always thought little boys (or big boys, for that matter), look a bit silly in a mohawk! I suppose, in a few decades, Jake will look back at this picture and think the same thing. Thankfully hair grows back and I hope his next "do" is a bit more conservative.

I know, don't sweat the petty stuff (and this is really petty stuff) and don't pet the sweaty stuff!

I hope your week is off to a great start.

Pugs and bugs

Loocie and I spent part of the day at the Akron, Ohio adoptathon working at the Ohio Pug Rescue booth. It was a beautiful day, although a little warm for the pugs. The pugs really know how to work the crowd and hopefully some of the interested people will fill out an application and adopt one of the little darlings now in foster care. As usual, I forgot to take many pictures, but did get this one of our booth.

This is a picture of Vito. Isn't he one handsome boy? He was a rescue pug who was adopted and is now being spoiled rotten. Don't you just love a happy ending? This is a recent picture of my Loocie. She looks so serious. She is not quite four years and has gotten so gray. I guess she's taking after her momma...lol!

The midgies, those annoying little creatures I told you about in an earlier post, are still around and worse than ever. The joys of living near the lake. I did manage to get the grass cut, but working in the flower gardens is impossible. Maybe tomorrow...?

Thanks for stopping by.

Garage sale goodies...

I hope everyone has had a great week and has some fun plans for the weekend.

I am not much of a garage saler, but every once in a while I will stop and find a treasure or two. Someone in the neighborhood has an annual sale, and usually I can find a few goodies. These were the best of the items that I purchased. The Munising bowl is not antique, but it does have some age. It is about 8 1/2 x 9 inches out of round. I thought it was a real bargain for $3.00. (I just LOVE old wood bowls. I have at least a dozen of them.) The half pint bottle makes a great little vase and the size one shoe last was just too cute to pass up ~ bargains at $1.00 each.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope to see you again soon ;-)

My current project

This is the latest project I am working on. The cats are from a Polly Minick/Laurie Simpson book and the background I am using is one often seen on the reproduction rug so many wonderful hookers have done. The background is a combination of seven different dark tan wools plus a few shades of black here and there. This is by far the largest rug I have worked on to date. It will probably end up being about 20 x 33 inches.

I am probably the world’s slowest hooker. I have been working on this since the end of March. In my defense, though, I have completed a few small pieces.
Here is the freebie sheep pattern I needle punched, offered by Betty over at primitivesbettys. Thanks Betty!

I had a small piece of linen I needed to use up so I hooked this little 5½ x 12 inch mat. I still haven’t finished it, but will work on the technique I learned from Alice over at Folk Art Primitives. Thanks, Alice ;-)

And lastly, I did this little punch needle piece for my dear friend Belinda who just had a milestone birthday. (Belinda, if you’re reading this, STOP!)

Thank you again for stopping by and happy hooking!

What happened to May?

Welcome back. I can’t believe it’s June already, can you?
These little buggers are one of the joys of being so close to Lake Erie (about two blocks)...lol! The closer to the lake you get, the more you have. They’re known as midgies, mayflies, sand flies, lake flies, muffleheads. Whatever you call them, they are annoying! They kind of look like mosquitoes and gather in the grass, flowers and shrubs. Walk by and thouands will swarm you, but thankfully, they don’t bite. At night you can hear the sky buzzing and sometimes see black clouds of them. They say that having so many is a sign that the lake is healthy, but getting any yard work done is impossible. When they are gone, it will be time for the Canadian soldiers, but that is another post!
Please enjoy a few pictures from my yard.

I hope your week is off to a great start.

Until next time. Lauren

Welcome to Rugs and Pugs! Thank you so much for stopping by to read my first post.

I am primarily a primitive rug hooker and needle puncher. For many years I did counted cross stitch, primarily reproduction samplers, but the eyes aren’t what they used to be…lol! I’ve also been a basket weaver, tried my hand at wood carving, painting, and a little of this and that.

I am also a pug lover! I have joint custody of a princess pug named Loocie (that’s another story!) and belong to Ohio Pug Rescue. I have fostered three female pugs in the last 9 months who are now in loving forever homes. Pugs are great therapy in a stressful life.

I will be having a patriotic give-a-way during the month of June to celebrate the 4th of July. Stop back to sign up and to see what project I am working on, what’s new on the pug front, and learn a little more about who I am.

Please remember, what counts is the journey, not the destination.

Thanks again for stopping by.
