Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery ~

Donna Hrkman rug
Perhaps my all time favorite hooked rug.

I have been to Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia and Los Angeles National Cemetery in California, but had not been to the military cemetery located in my backyard.  Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery is about an hour from me. I had passed the sign pointing the direction there many times.  DSO and I finally made the trip and paid our respects last week.

The Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located in the city of Rittman, in Medina County, Ohio.  Administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, it encompasses 273 acres, and as of 2024 had over 50,000 interments.

Visiting a military cemetery is so moving and having visited the gravesite of a friend's husband made it even more so.

On this Memorial day, please remember our veterans, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may be free.  May God bless our veterans.

It is the
VETERAN,
not the campus organizer
who has given us the freedom to assemble.

It is the
VETERAN,
 not the lawyer
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the
VETERAN,
not the politician
who has given us the right to vote.

If you can read this,
thank a teacher,
but thank a VETERAN
since you are reading this in English.

Please take a moment
to honor a VETERAN today.
Please remember . . .
FREEDOM ISN'T FREE.

May God bless this Land
that I love.

ETERNAL REST
GRANT THEM O LORD,
AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT
SHINE UPON THEM.

Lauren

Yes, God Bless those brave souls. And freedom does come with a dear cost.

So very true about our Veterans. We actually have a veterans cemetery right in Holly, MI where Dawn had the primitive shows at. I have been to Arlington and it was a sad sight for me seeing all of those headstones in person. Janice

I've always loved that "thank a veteran" piece. So very true. I've never been to a national cemetery but believe there is one not too far from where the lake house is. I will have to look into it.
