A Visit with Eema ~

As most of you know, my former foster Eema spent her first seven years as a puppy mill momma.  She was adopted one year ago yesterday and unfortunately has a malignant tumor that is growing.  Thankfully she is still her sweet self and shows absolutely no signs of being ill.  Mom Dolly showers her with attention and her walks now consist of riding in a doggy stroller.

Here's her Ohio Pug Rescue sister Cher.

With mom Dolly.  I love this woman.  I wish we could clone her!  There is no better place Eema could possibly be.  From the bottom of my heart, thank you Dolly.

Dolly always spoils me when I visit.  Today it was home made cobbler with ice cream and this sweet little pin :)

I've learned a few more things about my Annie in recent days.  She can't hold her licker very well.

Tonight she discovered her harness.

She has also decided that she likes to eat tissue so she goes to the waste basket in the bathroom and steals it.
I swear she looks part monkey and the way she was sitting just cracked me up!

Tonight I had a never before problem trying to leave a comment with Julie on Plum Run CreekI would type the comment, hit preview and poof!  It was gone.  I tried it three times before giving up.  Julie, if you are reading this, I love your new cupboard!
Thank you so much for stopping by.

In the Spirit of Friends ~

The god of sunshine was smiling on Malabar Farms on Saturday.  The vendors set up Friday evening in rain and mud, but thankfully the weather cleared and by early afternoon the sun was shining.
This is the only picture I took at the show.  It was life sized and just a hoot.  I wish I had gotten a picture of her bare feet.  I am also sorry to report I did not get the name of the vendor.

I didn't buy a whole lot (though I could have!), but purchases sure do add up quickly.
I did get this bittersweet wreath for the front door.

This sweet little Jack from Rhonda over at My Glory Stars.

A jar full of buttons and this cross stitch pattern from Lee at Falling Star Primitives.  I bought a pattern from her last year that is still not stitched :)

Yummy wool (MUCH more subdued in person) from the Aults and Alice over at A Day in the Life.

Last but not least these really cool old spindles from Bobbie at The Evening Stitcher.  She used one as a hanger for a little dress.  I think they would be really neat to hang a sampler or small hooked mat.

On the way home I decided to make a quick stop at a multi-dealer antique shop. I had purchased some very reasonably priced silver plate spoons there a couple of weeks ago and decided I'd better go buy the rest.

Thank you so much for stopping by.

Pug Updates ~

I can't believe it is officially fall.  Where in the heck did the summer go?  Remember when we were kids, the summer seemed to last forever?  Now the old roller coaster of life is picking up speed.  I find it kind of scary :)

Remember Lulu?  She was my foster that was adopted in August.  I got a call from her dad Dick last evening.  He says she has settled in nicely and is a real sweetheart.  That does my heart good to hear that!

(Hono)Lulu

Remember Hopscotch (now known as Midge)?  She was the pug wannabe who was adopted to a wonderful pug mom in January.  Heidi is good at sending me pictures.  Here's the latest.

I find many similarities between Hopscotch and my current foster Annie Banannie.  They both have little monkey faces.  The main difference is their size.  Hopscotch was very petite and though Annie only weighs 20.5 pounds, she appears about twice the size of Hopscotch.  We visited the vet yesterday to get her rabies shot and have her microchip implanted.  I was very surprised to hear the vet say that Annie is all pug but that she wouldn't win any beauty contests...lol!

She has a good pug tail, but I could not tell anyone with a straight face that she is all pug.  I am happy to say that Terri who pretty much oversees everything in Ohio Pug Rescue agrees with me.  Though the vet may be right, we are going to have her adopted out as a pug mix.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
Happy fall, y'all.
Pug hugs :)

Sweet Annie ~

Sweet Annie Bananie has been with me for three days now.  Here are a few things I've learned about her.
She LOVES to give kisses!

She has exceptionally long legs and it's hard to get a good picture of her because she moves so quickly.

I've also learned that she's a real lover, a true lap dog.  At night she snuggles so close in bed that it's hard to move.  She also barks.  A lot.  Way too much.  She doesn't walk well on the leash.  We need to work on that since I don't have a fenced yard.  She will sneak out the door if you are not careful.  If a car is going by she will chase it.  She scared the bejesus out of me!
I liken her to a Cabbage Patch doll.  So homely she's cute.  At least that's how I hope someone will feel :)

A face only a mother could love?

Today was a perfect day for an outdoor craft show.  One was held  in Wellington, Ohio.  The town is most famous for the painting that Archibald M. Willard painted there, the "Spirit of '76".  He was inspired after having seen a parade pass through the town square.

I didn't buy much, but did buy this pumpkin tub and the mum sitting in it.  I also purchased a few pumpkin and gourds.  I wonder how long before the squirrels start eating the pumpkins.  Any suggestions on how to prevent that?

Many months after (finally) finishing the hooking on this rug I steamed it.  Now that it is laying flat, I see that I need to reverse hook that goldish area by the red horse.  It's just way too bright!

The weekend is ending long before the majority of the items are crossed off my lenghty "to-do" list.  That seems to be the story of my life.
I'm not sure where my mind was on Thursday when I mentioned on my post that I hoped everyones week was off to a good start.  OOPS!!!

Pug Wannabe ~

Remember Hopscotch?  She was the pug wannabe that I came to foster just before Christmas 2010.  They thought she was probably a Chihuahua/pug mix (aka chug).

She was quickly adopted and is quite the daredevil.

Meet Luzianne, my foster girl I picked up today.  She was supposed to be Chamomile, but that name had already been taken :)  I will call her Annie.  I think she may be another chug.  She is so much like Hopscotch ~ long legs, long torso, a pointy snout and a very pronounced under bite!  The only difference is that she is twice the size that Hopscotch was.

Giving the stink eye!

No matter what she is, she will be loved and cared for while she waits for her forever home.

Last night was hooking at the library.  Some amazing rugs were being hooked.  Unfortunately, I have no pictures to share.  For the second time in less than a week, I did not have my memory card in the camera and have no way to download the pictures to the computer.  GGGRRRRR!!!  I sure do miss my mind!

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I hope your week is off to a good start.

Two Rugs and a Pug ~

Woo hoo!  Two more rugs are bound ~ one to go.  I still need to bind my Magdalena horse rug that I finished many months ago!  I have just had a mental block about that rug from the time I started hooking it, a long, long time ago.
Here is the little horse mat I just finished.  I think I should call it "horse with fat legs" :)  No matter how many camera settings I tried, I could not even come close to the true colors.  Maybe I need to try taking one outside.  Hopefully I can get a better picture to share at a later date.

Lexington proddy sheep, a pattern by Alice of A Day in the Life, is finally bound, too.  This was such a fun rug to hook.  The colors in the background are much more subtle in person.

Tomorrow is hooking at the library and I don't have a thing ready to hook.  I hate when that happens!
Thursday I will be picking up my new foster girl.  She is a one and a half year old fawn female who is at a shelter.  I was told she was adopted a month ago and returned because she did not get along with the other dog in the house.  The naming theme for the month ~ TEA.  Her name is Chamomile so I'll call her Cammie.  I can't wait to meet her!

Monday Mumblings ~

Thank you for all your kind comments on my spoon necklaces and key chains.  Ohio Pug Rescue did not set up at Skunkfest because of thunderstorms so I don't how they would have sold.  I may post some on my blog to sell one day.
I did head about an hour south to the fall show at Quailcrest Herb Farm.  It threatened rain, but luckily held off.  Alice's booth was beautiful!  Too bad I forgot to put the memory card in my camera and because the power cord does not work, I know of no way to retrieve the pictures!
On the way home, I stopped at a couple antique shops.  At the first shop I found this little treasure.  In years past I gave a couple toy machines to my sister, but didn't have one to call my own.  I solved that problem!  I also purchased a little white ironstone soap dish and some silver plate spoons.

At the next shop I found an old sprinkling can.  Now that I have three of them, it's an official collection, right?  I also bought another lidded basket, this time a square pie one, that some day I will hook a top for.  In my dreams, I think.  I now have six of them waiting for hooked tops :)
* * * * *
Does anyone else have this problem?

I swear I'm not sure I could have a clean garage if my life depended on it!  It is the catch-all for all things I should get rid of but don't.  I am in the process of trying to clean it, but usually give up long before it is done and organized.
Well, so far this month, if wasn't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all.  Last week was my tooth and yesterday my cell phone went belly-up.  I had been having problems a few months ago but it seemed to heal itself so I put it out of my mind.  Of course I wanted an iPhone but really didn't want the added monthly expense.  Anyway, I bit the bullet and got one.  Now I need to learn to do more than answer a call or send a text!!!  (Can you say challenged?)
Many thanks to all my new followers.  I appreciate everyone who takes the time to read my ramblings.
Still no word on my new foster.  I'm sure it won't be too much longer.
Pug hugs :)

Whole Lot of Nuthin' ~

I can't believe another week is over!  I know it was a short work week, but oh did it fly by.  Where is the time going?
For all of you who loved the license plate pig in the last post, I'll just let you know that for only $450 (plus tax, of course), it can be yours.
Tomorrow is Skunkfest in a nearby town, and yes, there will be many skunks in attendance.  It is amazing what a popular festival it is and the number of pet skunks that people have.  There is even Skunk Rescue!  I think I will stick with Pug Rescue.  Tomorrow's weather looks pretty iffy.  I hope it cooperates because there is also the fall festival at Quailcrest Herb Farm in Wooster, Ohio, which is a wonderful outdoor show.
Here's a sampling of my latest project.  I've made these from old silverplate spoons.  These (and more) are being donated to Pug Rescue and hopefully some will sell.  We are always scrounging for money to help the pugsters :)

I made one necklace and some key chains from the handles.

My little horse mat is so close to being finished.  I thought I'd be done already, but I guess it wasn't meant to be.  I plan on it being a Christmas gift and I need to come up with 3 or 4 more quick hooks to give as gifts.  Oh, just not enough hours in the day.  If only I did not need to sleep . . . sigh.  I'm also close on finishing the binding on my proddy sheep rug.  I will share the finished products with you ~ hopefully soon.
I hope your weekend is off to a great start!  I always say a bad weekend at home is better than a good week at work {{grin}}.
Pug hugs :)

Underwhelmed ~

Unfortunately I must say I was underwhelmed by my day spent in Waynesville.  There didn't seem to be as many antique shops and many of the shops were filled with imported items.  I also found some shopkeepers to be nothing short of rude.  One shopkeeper spent all her time talking loudly on the phone (I was the only one in the shop) and hardly acknowledged my presence.  At another antique store, the gentleman (I'll be kind) behind the counter was too busy with his computer to even have the courtesy to say hello!  Needless to say, very little of my cash was left in town.
I thought these items made from license plates were really neat.

Saturday Wink and I headed to a large prim shop in a town not far from her.  There were some wonderful primitive items, but once again many imports.  There were some hooked rugs at the shop that were very poorly made and screamed "import" from a block away, but then there were some very nicely made ones that I was sure were American made.  Boy was I ever fooled!  There was one rug, a geometric, 3' x 5' that was priced $449.  I thought that was a great price for an American made rug.  Guess what?  Made in India!!!
I did come home with this great pumpkin on a bed spring.  Wink bought it for me.  Thank you, dear friend :)

After the prim shop and a yummy lunch, we decided to stop at one antique shop before I headed north.  I'm so glad we stopped because I got a FANTASTIC deal on three clusters of vintage stone fruit grapes.  I was so excited.  I got all three for much less than one bunch normally costs!  I also found some silverplate spoons to make necklaces.  They were more than I wanted to pay, but I figured it was better to buy them than to run out of them.  Then as luck would have it, I found a number of spoons at the local Goodwill for a great price!  I guess I'd better get busy and make some necklaces!

Last evening Katie from Kidl'-de-Divey Woolens had her first hook-in at the Chairmaker and Friends, a shop that recently moved to Vermilion, Ohio.  What a wonderful shop that is.  I could do some serious damage to the pocketbook there.  There were just a couple of us there and Katie was so sweet and gave us some bits of wool.  If you are anywhere near Vermilion, be sure to join in the fun!  I was working on my horse mat (almost done ~ woo hoo!) and Katie was kind enough to draw me a flag pattern that I am going to hook in monochromatic colors.

As (bad) luck would have it, tonight I broke a tooth that had been repaired years ago.  GGGRRRRR!!!!  I sure hope I can get in to the dentist tomorrow because about every ten seconds, my tongue gravitates to that spot and it is so annoying.
Thanks so much for stopping by and please come again soon.
Pug hugs :)

Eye Candy ~

I do hope everyone had a wonderful, safe holiday.  The weather in Ohio sure can change quickly.  Two days ago we were sweltering in high temps and humidity, and today it is jeans and sweatshirt weather.  I am NOT ready for summer to end.  As so many others have commented, Labor Day is the unofficial end to summer :(

I took a few pictures at Wink's house that I will share with you.  Many years ago I caught the "antique flu" from her.  We still have the disease :)
Wink has a great collection of patriotic items.  (Soon they will all be put away to make room for her fall decor.)  I am going to steal this idea from her.  She grouped a collection of cobalt blue bottles and filled them with American flags.

More patriotic items . . .

This is a perforated paper sampler.

Child sized dry sink.

A very small part of her featheredge collection.  She is the one who introduced me to it many years ago.

These are a few of the reproduction samplers I gave her over the years.

Her first grandbaby, 12 month old Clayton.  Isn't he just too cute?
