A Day Late ~

I'm a day late . . . so what else is new?  In honor of Memorial Day, I am posting a picture of what is one of my all-time favorite hooked rugs, hooked by Donna Hrkman.  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this rug.
I hope everyone had a good holiday and took a minute to remember our veterans and the ultimate price some of them paid.  Freedom is not free.  God Bless our soldiers.

I'm also late picking a winner of the hearts and clover pattern on linen.  Congrats to Lilly.  Please send me your snail mail address and I will get the pattern mailed tout de suite.

I've been a hooking fool lately (or is it just a fool . . . I'll get to that in a minute).  I finally took a look around my yard the other day.  Oh, dear, I need to get busy.  I did the initial spring cleanup and haven't done anything other than cut the grass since.

There are so many squirrels in my neighborhood and they run around like wild children.  Here's one feasting on a helicopter from the maple tree.  I have so many helicopters, I could feed an army of squirrels.

Now the fool part.  After work I needed to make a few stops near the mall, about 20 minutes from home.  I was on a mission and was going to accomplish my tasks quickly.  I do not, repeat, DO NOT like to shop.  In my haste to enter JoAnn's and not wanting to forget my coupon, I set the keys down, left them there ~ and proceed to lock the car.  GGRRR!!!  So I call AAA and am told it is a busy day and there is a two hour wait.  Now I am really mad at myself.  Thankfully my son was not working so he is going to rescue me.  I am on the phone to cancel my AAA call and luckily answered my beep because the tow company said they'd be there in less than 10 minutes.  All in all I probably lost 25 minutes time, completed my errands, came home, did yard work and here I am.  Whew!  Makes me tired just thinking about it.  And the best (worst?) part is that I did not use the coupon because the items were already on sale.

Thank you so much for stopping by and listening to my ramblings.
Pug hugs :)
Lauren

  1. That is a really beautiful rug, love the details.
We have a few squirrels who sit under the bird feeders and grab what is dropped. I have to lock the car, with the key, so I have to be out of the car before i click it, nice solution for those of us who rush around a lot;)

  3. I've always loved that rug too. It's a beautiful tribute. Sorry about your keys. That's what happens when we have too many things on our minds. Luckily you were rescued fairly quickly.

  5. What a wonderful rug that is. I locked my keys in the car when I took Ashley to tour the college that had a part where they stayed a few hours with other students. I when in hunt of a hooking shop I heard about drove in the yard was so excited I locked the car and slam I knew exactly what I did. I was 2 states away from home. I was so mad.

  6. What a way to spend the day... but it all worked out in the end.

I love the detail in that rug. It looks more like a picture than a hooked piece.

  7. I, too, love that rug.

What a day you had shopping! Glad your son could come to the rescue.

When you commented on my blog, you mentioned blood when you tripped over the gardening equipment. Oh, Lauren, I hope you are OK. Did you get bandaged and disinfected?

  9. Ah Lauren, I've accidentally locked my keys twice in the car and had to call AAA.
I'm glad that you got rescued by your son.

That is a beautiful rug, such sad longing in his eyes. The rug speaks better than words. A fine piece of art.

Don't feel bad, yard work is getting so behind here too. While the sun shine I weed and more rain for tomorrow and the lawn grass is growing so fast, I can't keep up.

    Hugs,
    JB

  10. Wow the rug is just inspiring!

My mom used to lock her keys in the car so frequently that my 2 year old nephew would question her every time they got out of the car about where her keys were. My favorite quote from that time is "Not again Ninny! I can't take it anymore"

  11. Yes indeed...a wonderful rug. I got a chuckle out of your key story. How many times have I had a similar experience! Once I locked my keys in the car WITH my toddler still inside. Oh, that was fun...since she had no idea how to unlock the car.

  14. Well I am glad you didn't have to wait that long. But I might have been tempted to shop that long? I hope you had a wonderful day anyway. I love that rug too.

  15. Yowzer...always have the fear of locking our keys in the car!!! Glad your son was close enough to save you
Always am amazed that JoAnn's has most things on Sale and so those coupons are useless most of the time.
But...I do buy my Ivory Wool Felt from there and use the 40 or 50% off coupon...it's actually cheaper that way than ordering it wholesale because of the added surcharge and shipping.
Oh my those helicopters....tons of them here as all our trees are Maples and they SPROUT new trees too!!! Which I pulled hundreds of them up this past weekend.
Love the hooked piece - such a great job.
    Blessings,
    karen

  16. Hi Lauren...my car is so old it is impossible to lock yourself out...it requires the key...too old for keyless entry! That rug is amazing...such expression on the old gent's face. My squirrels have been eating my hibiscus blooms for lunch...had to put cayenne pepper all over the leaves....brats.
    Weekend coming...enjoy!
