Must Have Wool ~

Do you have a favorite "must have" wool in your stash?  I have many, but one of my very most favorite (how's that for bad English?) is Flax & Linen by the Wool Studio.  It is an older wool, but a few months ago I was able to order a couple yards from them.  I know the general rule is to cut wool with the stripe, but more often than not, I cut it against the stripe.  However, you can cut it both ways and mix the two and it looks great.

Santa's beard is hooked cutting against the stripe and his moustache is cut with the stripe.  You can see the moustache is just a tad darker since I chose the darker stripes.

Mr. Jingles body was hooked against the stripe.

So was the background of this little mat, though it is showing up much too white.

It just hooks up as a kind of grungy white 😍 . . . and it overdyes beautifully.

I did one more batch of goldenrod dyeing.  Here are the before wools (including Flax & Linen).

And after.  More tan than yellow which I like.

I hope everyone is well.  As always the time is flying by.  Mid October?  Argh.

Do you have this problem?  No matter what I do or how hard I pinch the nose wire, I have this issue.  I don't envy people (Cathy!) who have to wear masks for hours on end.  I suppose that is why so many people wear their mask under their nose . . . 😁😁😁

Thanks so much for stopping by.
Pug hugs 😊

  1. Yes, I do have that problem and even placing my glasses on top of the nose piece doesn't seem to help. I only have a little flax and linen so maybe I should buy more if it is still available. Like you many times I cut wool both ways and mix together or separately, whatever the pattern requires.

  2. I have a piece of that wool, saving it for something special. Love you dye job. YES, no matter what I do my glasses fog, although annoying, I find breathing through my mouth helps some. Just were has this year gone-----being on lock down, now on safer at home, no eating out, etc. it still went too fast.

  3. My friend started wearing the blue ones that doctors wear rather than fabric, and it really helped her fogging. I made several shaped over the nose but straight down and out from the chin rather than shaped beneath it. I can breath better and that helped too.

Mr. Jingles and Santa are wonderful. Whatever those swirls are technically called (movement?) of the backgrounds, I call them outstanding.

And you cut across the stripe? You rebel.

  5. Fogging of the glasses--which is going to be my down fall first? Not wearing the mask or running into wall because my glasses are fogged?

  6. If you wear your glasses a bit further down on your nose it fogs less.
I love that wool. All the wool is my favourite. The Wool Studio rocks

  7. yup! it is a battle all day. I just pinch my nose harder. The darker strip on the bottom is one of my favorites. Glad you are enjoying the golden rod dying sounds like fun and good results.

  8. For me wearing a fogging mask with my glasses is a big problem especially because they are trifocal. A real pain in the, you know what.

I can see why that wool is your favorite. Your pieces are really sweet. Sometimes I wish I would take up the hook again but I really don't need another rug right now, lol. My days are so full as is and I find that time goes by at super speed. I always have something to keep my hands or my mind occupied.

  9. I think your latest dye job turned out spectacularly!!! But I am beginning to feel like I am living in the Twilight Zone (besides what is going "out there" I mean). I had meant to go to Cathy's and get my wool for "Jack's Crow" WEEKS ago....but things came up for me, and then for her...and I finally only made it down there today...and gee....I think that one of the wools I chose is that Flax and Linen as one of them. Go figure.... She pulled it out and I yelled "THAT!" LOL. Don't get me started on the foggy glasses thing.....I wear bifocals and can't just "pull them down" to where they don't fog or I can't see....and I get twice as anxious being not only not able to breathe, but not able to see. One of these days someone is gonna get hurt LOL. ~Robin~

  12. Thank goodness I only have to wear a mask at the store when a customer comes in or the rare time I go to the store as I wear glasses to see far away and always steam them up. LOL So love how you dye your wools and love the contrast of cutting the strips. Janice
