Rainbow Bridge ~

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here,
that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends
so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food and water and sunshine,
and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams
of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing:
they miss someone very special to them;
who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together,
but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
The bright eyes are intent;
the eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to break away from the group,
flying over the green grass,
his legs carrying him faster and faster.
YOU have been spotted,
and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion,
never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face;
your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet,
so long gone from your life
but never absent from your heart.
My Linnie got sick last week and the prognosis was not good. Yesterday I made the painful decision to have her put to sleep. It's one of the hardest things I have done in my life. Though she was in my life only a short time, she took a piece of my heart with her.
Run fast and free, my Linnie Lu.
Give your furbabies an extra hug and kiss today.
Lauren

  6. Lauren,
    While your head knows you did the right thing, your heart is breaking...missing that unconditional love for your pet. I've been there. Your post made me cry for you and our Gretchen, too. Maybe she and your Linnie will meet up and play together. Our little sweetie loved to run fast with smaller dogs her size. Hugs to you.

  7. I am sorry, we do love our animals no matter how long they have been with us.
    It is so painful to have to make those decisions, but when we know the time has some we do what is best for the animal. Bless your heart for caring for them so much.

  12. Oh Lauren....so very sorry. Sometimes, certain dogs come into our lives and maybe it's for a short time, but there is always a reason. Linnie needed you for what little time she had left on earth. I know how hard having to make 'that' decision is. It is never easy, but you know it was best for her and maybe that's why she came to you, so she could be loved and and the right decision could be made.
    Thinking of you!

  15. Lauren,
    I'm so very sorry. I made a similar decision last week and on Friday got the call that her ashes were ready to be picked up. So difficult to drive over there to do it. I'll have to send someone else. Hard to believe I am down to only one horse and one dog. What a difference a year can make.

    Linnie could not have had a better life than with you. Hugs to you.

  26. Lauren--
    Because of Ohio Pug Rescue and you...
    Linnie didn't have the end her life come when she was cold, alone, unloved and suffering-
    She came to the end being loved.
    My heartfelt gratitude goes to all who rescue, foster and adopt the unloved, abused and unwanted pets.
