I often wondered if you could cross stitch on rug hooking linen, but of course never tried. Jenny from the Wooly Horse answered that question for me. She had a couple examples, but I failed to take pictures. I grabbed a scrap piece of linen I had and gave it a whirl. It is being stitched with hand dyed sock weight yarn that Jenny dyes. The biggest alphabet I could find in any of my books/sampler charts was 11 stitches tall. I could have charted larger, but chose not to be bothered.
These are definitely horse stitches. Six crosses to the inch!
Jenny had pieces of linen that she had serged and were free for the taking. Here is the start of God Bless America.
Not sure what I will do with these, but they are fun.
Cataract surgery went well. Now it's the follow up visits and the eye drops for the next 3+ weeks. It is wonderful to no longer have blurry vision. As everyone says, colors are much more vibrant. And I am much more grey than I was pre-surgery 😁 I thought I was just blonde . . . lol!
Thanks so much for stopping by.
Pug hugs 😊

I tried doing cross stitch on left over scraps of linen a few years ago . Lori Brechlin from Not Forgotten Farm was doing it a while ago . I still got frustrating doing cross stitch and didn't get much done . I'm sticking with hooking ! Good to hear your vision is already better !!!
ReplyDeleteIf you did those before your eye surgery, you did fantastic with blurry vision. They are cute and am sure you will find a use for them. But for me, I'll stick with hooking as I could hook those letters in half the time or less than it took for you to do the cross stitch.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear surgery went well. Now I will definitely have to double check my typing/grammar before posting LOL. I really like the stitching on the hooking linen! Like MD said, I'm sure you will figure out what to do with them! (Hey...how about a cigar box topper?? ;-) ) I'm curious about the yarn that Jenny dyes that you're using.
ReplyDeleteGlad surgery went well. That stitching on the linen is quite nice. Love the patriotic stitching you chose. Would you share the yarn you are using for this. Janice
ReplyDeleteI like the look of your cross stitches on that linen and I’m happy to read your surgery went well! 🙂
ReplyDeleteI never thought to stitch on hooking linen- that is so cool! I am glad your cataract surgery was successful. I have been putting mine off...Your positive experience is reassuring to me.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on a successful cataract surgery! From what I hear, folks always wonder why they haven't done it sooner. Sweet prim look with the cross stitch...my suggestion would be to add it to your next wool applique? Or, you could back it with some calico and make a tag to hand from a crock? Folks always tell me I'm "full of it"...I'm guessing "it" refers to ideas? lol!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're seeing the light (ha). I had/have in my mind a project to X stitch on linen. I didn't and haven't but still may. I have so much yarn. I looked on line for a larger alphabet pattern sample. I think a piece like you're doing would look great in a frame perhaps stitched onto a piece of wool first. OR as mentioned above, put onto a cigar or treasure box. Thanks for rekindling the idea. Keep us posted.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in third grade, our teacher brought burlap and yarn and needles and we got to sew. I was hooked from that time on. She also taught us to weave. So I really love your stitches. I might have to try this. I am so glad about your eyes. I laughed about you being more gray. I tell myself all the time, look how much money I am saving by not having my hair frosted/streaked. When I had my eyes done, I could believe how dirty my house was, I told people, I now had eyes of a twenty year old but not the body. Haha.
ReplyDeleteI still think of our pool looking green, then after the surgery, the pool being blue. I am so glad everything is doing good.
