Lorain, the city where I have lived the last 25 years, is known as the International City. One hundred twenty five plus years ago, many ethnic groups settled in the city to work in the steel mill. Each ethnic group had their own church. Sadly, about 20 years ago, the Catholic diocese closed the majority of the little churches, including the Slovenian church my mother attended her entire life.
I had heard the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Polish church (that was not closed), was absolutely beautiful, but in all the years I have lived in the area, I had never been inside. Last month, they were having an open house that DSO and I decided to attend. I am still in awe of what we saw. Absolutely beautiful!!!

WOW. Absolutely beautiful
ReplyDeleteBeautiful church, alters and stained glass windows, particularly that of the boy.
ReplyDeleteI could do some serious praying in that beautiful church. I see similarities between it and our church here in Delaware Ohio, although ours is not as big and grand. Our altar has similar motifs, the arching of the ceiling is the same, the lights (but no chandelier!) and we have similar statues too. We just started the first of many phases to restore our church to its earlier beauty. It was built by the Irish and German settlers here in 1886 and is Gothic style. Thanks for sharing your interesting tour!
ReplyDeleteThat church is beautiful and large! The holy water dispenser made me laugh too it looks like hand sanitizer but I guess it is soul sanitizer lol

Absolutely glorious! You really got some wonderful photos of it. I heard we have a beautiful Catholic church here too but I've never been there. Not being Catholic, I also admired the beauty that was put into their churches. Ours are quite stark by comparison. ~Robin~
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful church . And the Holy Water dispenser is funny to see
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous church. Being Catholic myself I have been to some amazing churches. The ones in Detroit reminded me of this one. Those stained glass windows are works of art. I tend to admire those when visiting other churches more than anything. Just dont make them like they use to. TFS Janice
