Not Easy ~

My normal hooking style is to have all my loops be like little soldiers all neatly standing next to each other.  I prefer to hook with long wool worms.  I strive to have all my loops the same height.

Now meet Ole Jack.  This is Cathy's version of the antique rug.    Saundra had sent me a photo of the original rug, but I'll be darned if I can find it.

Here is my start.  This has been hard for me.

Shorter worms.  Wonky.  Different heights of my loops.  Hopefully I will make time to work on it soon so I don't totally forget what I am doing!  I am loving it so far.  My horse is the smaller of the two sizes Cathy offers, but at 28" x 39" it is plenty big for me.

Cathy is a wonderful teacher and if you ever get a chance to take a class with her, jump at the opportunity!

After getting home from rug camp Thursday evening, I had to gather up my goods and head to Malabar Farm on Friday to set up for Saturday's hook in.  I still can't yet sit back and relax because I am vending at another hook in on October 9 . . . then maybe I can breathe.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
Pug hugs 😊

  4. So glad you found something to take up the slack time of retirement. LOL!! I can't see why you aren't pleased with your progress but I don't hook. Just like any needleworker, we get used to our creations being a certain way, regardless of how it looks to others. Hope you'll have some time to relax and enjoy fricking fall.

  7. I think you have made incredible progress...especially for a rug that large (and, yes, I've seen Cathy's and know it's even larger...she's hooked on HUGE). I am not decorating this year, but did pull out a few "treasures"...one being the little black kitty w/ his pumpkin that you hooked. And I am get green when I see how uniform and perfect your hooking is. That I will never achieve in a lifetime of hooking. Hope vending went well....I have heard the fall event at Malabar is amazing. ~Robin~ (Oh...and welcome home...)

  8. I think your loops being less structured make the rug look even better. I can just imagine some sweet, tired but determined settler hooking it by candlelight!

  9. I like the wonkiness of the older rugs and hit or miss colors when they ran out, so have fun with your antique and enjoy the process. It looks wonderful to me.

  10. I don't know how this post slipped by without me seeing it. You are even busier than me. Your horse is looking great. I've always admired how perfectly even your hooking is every time. It must be a challenge to let loose. I like your chosen colors.

I've watched Deanne Fitzpatrick hook rugs and she goes a hundred miles an hour and her hoops are uneven and she usually hooks with long worms. I like hooking with long worms also but it's not always possible when hooking the designs.

Wish you some good sales and lots of fun. Stay safe and well.
    Hugs, Julia
