Struggling with 36 Count Linen ~

I can't believe how long this little piece has taken me.  The finished size is about 5 1/2" x 4".  Stitched on 36 count linen, a first for me, I truly struggled.  Those snowflakes were almost the death of me.  Though they are showing well in the picture, while stitching the  color of the floss was almost the same color as the linen.  I found it easier to stitch on the 40 count, and I've figured out why.  The piece on 40 count linen was a sampler where the letters are close together.  It was easy to check and recheck to be sure I was counting threads correctly.  On this piece, with motifs far apart, it was easy to miscount, even double checking.  There are more errors, one thread and in some cases two, than anything I have ever stitched.  I'm sure 98% of you would never know . . . but I do.  I am just glad to finally have it done.  Now it can go in the "stitched" but not "finished" box.

Something to make you smile.  I hope you can read this.  If I enlarge it any more, part of it is cut off.

My post office stories are still not over.  I got two boxes today from my sister, mailed priority mail from Mobile, AL, ON DECEMBER 12.  Really???

Thanks so much for stopping by.
Pug hugs 😊

  1. I can't share your angst with cross stitch as that isn't one I've tackled, thank goodness. BUT the small linen pattern I ordered on December 6th still hasn't arrived. BUT shipping notice says it might be here before the end of the week. No, it didn't from across the world, just from Maine.

  2. Your finish looks lovely--36 ct is my favorite count linen (it took me awhile to get there). Mailing struggles, I mailed a first class letter Dec 23 going across town and it took two weeks for it to arrive! I wonder if it was touring America or just laying low at the post office.

  3. That is adorable. Yep. Those wandering motifs are a shot in the dark sometimes.
Thanks for the laugh. But a wimper too because they are true.

  7. The USPS is ridiculous...my grand daughter just received her Christmas card that I mailed on Dec 8th...and she lives 8 miles from me! Im still waiting for a order of floss from December 11...I"m going to use UPS from now on when shipping out pkg's. No wonder the post office is going broke...

  8. I cannot even see that count!

Been waiting for a package from Antwerp since October. It's on a boat stuck in the harbor. I call that gone.

    Loved the humor!

  9. Your little sampler is so sweet. You are so brave for even trying it...
My eyeballs would fall out. Even though I really enjoy doing cross-stitch, it's been years since my last cross-stitch. My fingers are unemployed at the moment.

Thanks for the laugh. I can identify with quite a few of those.

Take care and keep on stitching.
    Hugs, Julia

  10. Your cross stitch looks wonderful to me. I hear you about PO, got a Christmas card yesterday mailed from WI on Dec 15th to me in AL. Still waiting on package to me from Oregon that was mailed before Christmas, maybe it will arrive in time for Christmas 21.

  12. That’s really a cute little stitch. Me thinks someone might just be too hard on yourself. They are not mistakes, you are just making it your own. I think I recognize the person being described, but I can’t remember my name...hahaha.

  14. We see the errors in our work - others don't! That's what I'm hoping, anyway. The list you posted was hilarious! Really tickled me!

  15. Well.... I think your cross stitch looks awesome! A pattern that I stitched a few years back called for two strands of floss when stitching the snow (all else one strand), to make the snow look fluffy. I've since been doing that on every piece that has snow. I've set cross stitch aside for awhile because of the counting and recounting that seems to make a small piece take forever... So, I've moved on to quilts! lol! Love those little one liners! I did one just here... I started out typing "couple of years" and thought about it for a minute... then change it to "a few years". Yes...time speeds up as we age....;-)

  16. I see nothing...but another beautiful (almost) finish. Is that a Pineberry Lane pattern??? I like 36 count...but any pattern where you are using 1 thread and motifs are miles away from each other...or have just a few stitches to them but you can't "travel" ... drives me nuts. But, when it's something like "snow," I figure it should be random, so what the heck if I am off a bit here and there LOL. I like what Sharon said about using 2 strands for snow...at least that would alleviate the pain of starting/finishing with 1 strand for only a few stitches. Hmmmm.... Mail service is so wretched I no longer collect my mail every day. Who cares anymore? And the funnies are hilarious. I relate too well to way too many of them.... the finally getting 8 hrs of sleep I think was stolen from me LOL. TFS! ~Robin~

  17. I tried 36 count linen as a new year start. Ummm not for me. I want my stitching to be enjoyable, and for me linen is not.
