This, That and the Other ~

It just dawned on me to check the calendar.  Holy moley.  Monday is Memorial Day.  Maybe I didn't realize it because it falls so early this year . . . or maybe because the world is in such a crazy state.

I have been working on this cross stitch for a month now.  I stitch a little every day but usually only 30 minutes or so.  I've had to frog more than I ever have before.  The chart has many errors and it is just frustrating.  If it wasn't the perfect birthday gift, I would have given up long ago.

I am finishing up a little hooked mat, a fun pattern by Notforgotten Farm.  He's called Mr. Jingles, but I think I need to call mine Mr. Shoebuttons since I plan on using antique shoe buttons in lieu of the rusty bells.  A Christmas gift.  Maybe this year I won't wait until the last minute and go crazy trying to get a few hooked gifts done.  I just don't have the inclination to start a larger rug, though I have many patterns to choose from.

Did you know that May is "Older Americans Month"?  Did you even know there was such a thing?  I didn't until the bank sent me tips to help me protect myself.

Yard work just never ends.  I just about finished all the edging, and I had to start all over again.  I did get my 10 bags of topsoil on the low spot (400# worth . . . that's more dirt than I care to carry) but it still isn't enough.  Oh, well.  It may have to do for now.  Still have my 6 bags of mulch to put out.

For a couple "no-reply" bloggers.

      - Kate . . . thank you for the info.  I will look for a competitor's coupon to use.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
Be safe and stay healthy.

  1. One reason I don't have flower beds and shade gardens is because of my clay soil. The other is the amount of work involved. True gardeners enjoy it, a labor of love. It's just labor to me!

Great shape to the snowman. He's not a stack of blobs and has his own feet!

  2. Your cross stitch and snowman mat are both looking good. I can't believe we are actually May 21st...
I understand all the work the yard needs and you are right. It's never done. I cut the grass for the first time today. It was 28℃ or 82.4℉.
This year I have so much more creeping charlie weeds on my back lawn and I have large areas of thatched lawn where the creeping fescue is so dense that it's choking itself and is still yellow. I've put some raised beds in the backyard. I'm getting too old and full of arthritis to look after this gardening but I keep at it like a fool.

  5. Ooops...well, obviously I read this post before commenting on the prior post LOL. Just can't trust this mind of mine to not betray me these days. ;-) Love the snowfella.... And as long as I am mixing up my comments on your posts, I meant to mention that maybe you don't like binding/finishing your rugs because you do the wool binding. I love the look...and Cathy showed me the methodology, but it seems like double the steps when you can just whip in one step.... ?? Just saying. Happy Memorial Day....hopefully I'll "remember" ~ Robin

  6. You are so right. Seems way too early for Memorial Day. Think that our family will get together and head to Ebeneezer Stone Farm for the day. Love that little snowman. Your XStitch is really nice. I have finished several smalls. Almost finished a nice BBD sampler and cut a hole in it frogging. A nauseating first for me. Just saying, be extra careful.

  9. Memorial Day snuck up on me as well, as did Mother's Day, and also DS's birthday and I can't blame that one on being early. I'm soooo behind on garden work - the cool wet weather just doesn't get me out there, neither do the sunny days with 30mph winds. It makes me want to stay in and work on quilts or needlework.

I'm not sure if my no-reply thing is fixed. I've tried to fix in the past with no success.

  10. Hi Lauren,
I feel the same way about Memorial Day, but actually, MOST DAYS seem to sneak up on me lately!!! I am pretty happy though, because I actually did a blog post BEFORE Memorial Day, so that is a HUGE accomplishment!!! Lately, I seem to be late for everything!!! Just being human, I guess!!!! lol
You always seem to be working on something fun and I love your little snowman!!! Snow sure does sound pretty good now with those temps starting to climb in AZ!!!!
I can't begin to imagine all the yard work you have to do!!!!!!! UGH!!!! It makes me happy that all I have in my yard is gravel!!
Take care and hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day!
    Heart Hugs~
