Back to School ~

I hope every one had a glorious 4th of July.  DSO had his annual party.  We dodged a few sprinkles early on, but overall a wonderful, albeit hot, humid day.  Ah, summertime.

I was shocked to see school supplies already in the store the other day.  Today the Kohls ad came with back to school sales.  I feel as though summer has just begun.

Still don't have a real hooking project planned, so I quickly hooked a little fall mat.  I will bind it on the way to Chicago Tuesday.  A great way to pass the time.

I also started this 1776 Patriotic Eagle cross stitch by Lori Rippey.  I prefer to stitch samplers but this is the perfect gift for a friend.  I am not off to a good start.  I've already had to frog (rip out) stitches twice and I've barely begun.  You can purchase the chart here.

Here are my goods from last Saturday's primitive antique show.  The two treen containers were priced right . . . not that I needed to add to that collection.  The Santa was also a great deal.  The little Staffordshire dog has some damage and was just sweet.  The doll's head is tin and marked Germany on the back and Minerva on the front.  I'm told it dates to the early 1900's.  The coverlet was my big purchase.  I bought it to cut up, but as always I am having second thoughts.  It does have wear/damage, but as you can see in the second picture, it is dated 1843.  I assume the ends had major damage because they are sewn down with the date folded in half.  A few other purchases may become gifts so are not shown.

Poison ivy ~ ugh.  I contracted it again for only the third time in my life but two summers in a row.  I really should have gone to the doctor but every day I thought it was getting better.  Mostly confined to one arm, the itching has been driving me crazy.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
Pug hugs :)
Lauren

  1. School supplies? We just came home from Hobby Lobby and it was full of Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas! Waaaaay too early for Christmas! I love all your goodies, but I don't think I'd be able to cut that coverlet up. Maybe you can salvage a piece to throw over a chair or put in a basket. Your little rug is so cute...love the eagle, too. We still have our red, white and blue out and might keep it for a few more days.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend,
    Robyn

  3. I just got over a case of poison ivy also.. Yuk. How can any thing itch that bad. I found some relief with an old remedy, fells napa soap.. I think that is the spelling. I remembered we use go soap up the girls at Scout camp, when they had the misfortune to encounter the stuff on a hike. Love the little doll head and hope you know someone who could add a period appropriate body.. Coke

  5. Your Eagle piece is beautiful and I assume it is counted cross stitch. No way in hell could I or would I do one of those. I'd be constantly ripping out and get so frustrated I'd throw it in the trash. Your hooked pumpkin and sunflower is cute too.

  6. It's way too early for school supplies. There is a summer to be enjoyed first. You got some great find at the antic show. Your little mat is sweet and so is the eagle cross stitch.
Poison ivy is so brutally itchy but if you have some jewelweeds growing around your place, you can use the sap from the stem on your skin to neutralize the poison and stop the itch. It works also for poison oak and even flea bites. Jewelweed has hollow stems and in the summer they have little orange trumpet flowers that produce seeds pods that explode when touched. You can see some images of jewelweed on the web. I find them also good for mosquito bites or those little no-see-ems.
Enjoy the week and stay out of poison ivy...

  8. Love your pumpkin mat. I get a bad case of poison ivy at least once a summer. Go see your doc and get something. I made it past May this year. A record for me.

  9. Oh I cringed when you said you were planning on cutting up that coverlet. The colors are very rare to find together. Not fun having poison ivy. UGH Hope you have a safe trip to Chicago. Janice

  10. The retail rush of seasons sure makes it hard to
live in the moment. Not a fan.
I love your coverlet and want to get one someday.
It’d be gorgeous just hung on the wall!
