Happy Halloween ~

~ HAPPY HALLOWEEN ~

Thankfully the rain stopped and overall the weather was mild.  I think I only got about half the normal amount of trick-or-treaters.  Now there is all this left over candy.  Not good.  I have absolutely no willpower when it comes to sweets.

Just a few quick pictures taken this eve.  I'm guessing I've had this ceramic pumpkin for at least 55 years.

Ceramics made by my mom.  She did beautiful work.  Several of them played music but the batteries died long ago and the cat had eyes that lit up.  I did paint the scarecrow on the left in 1975, about the only thing I ever painted.

On the middle shelf in the dining room cupboard are my vintage papier mache jacks and one vintage witch sitting on a pumpkin.

I bought Ernestine a new Halloween costume but she had a total wardrobe malfunction.

Luckily her pumpkin costume was nearby.  I didn't even try to put on the pumpkin hat.

She was such a good girl sitting outside while we passed out candy.  She got many oohs and ahs and lots of petting.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Old Hearts ~

Happy Monday to you.  Monday's aren't so bad when you are retired :)  I still give thanks each day that I am home enjoying life.

I've finally made some progress on Old Hearts, a pattern by the Old Tattered Flag, started in a class a couple weeks ago with Caroline Twigg of Eagles Nest Woolens.  The background is totally mindless straight line hooking in varying shades of one of my favorite dyed wools, Emma Lou's old putty, found in the Emma Lou Lais/Barbara Carroll dye book.

I have not pulled a single loop on my second rug start of the month, a class with Cathy Stephan of Red Barn Rugs, and tomorrow I will be starting yet another rug.  I have a two day class with Kris Miller of Spruce Ridge Studios.  I had her for a teacher in Florida this past January and she is another excellent teacher and so full of stories to entertain us.

Fall has skipped us by this year.  We went from hot (80's) to pretty dang chilly (40's-50's) overnight.  There is very little fall color.  I am still hoping for some Indian summer so I can get a few outside tasks accomplished.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Shelburne ~

Better late than never.  Even though we've been home for several weeks, I have not gotten around to sharing our time at Shelburne.  We had anticipated spending just a day there, but went back for another half day and still did not see all we wanted to see.  Shelburne Museum is a museum of art, design, and Americana located in Shelburne, Vermont. Over 150,000 works are exhibited in 39 exhibition buildings, 25 of which are historic and were relocated to the Museum grounds. It is located on 45 acres near Lake Champlain.

Some random pictures.

Mystery Rug and a Few Rugs to Share ~

I can finally show the mystery rug I had been working on since it is now with "Auntie" Darlene.  Darlene is a former pug mom who absolutely loved Ernestine and watched her several times this year when DSO and I went away.  It gave us such peace of mind knowing Ernestine was loved and being spoiled rotten.  Sadly Darlene is moving out of state.  She will be missed!

The rug sports a little E tag for Ernestine.  This brown is pretty close to the true background color.

The label :)

There was a small rug show at Hooktoberfest and I managed to snap a few pictures.

This snow couple was so sweet.

They were hooked to look like chenille.
