Yesterday I had a play date with hooker friends Melissa, Bobbie and Sheila. We met up in Mansfield, OH, for two primitive shows. Our first stop was at Gathered Treasures, one of my favorite shows. Lots of prim goodies if that is what you were in search of. I tend to purchase antiques rather than primitive crafts. I do like them, but I already have too much stuff :)
I have to say I just love this little box/stand. I bought it to use on the porch during the Christmas holidays filled with greenery, but I am considering putting it in the hooking room to hold books and magazines. This would be so easy to make. Just an old wooden box and four tobacco sticks nailed to the sides. So who is going to be making one?
This paper mache turkey candy container is a treasured find to add to my collection.
I bought this for the white ironstone pitcher, not to use as a holiday decoration. The seller said I should have no problem removing the tree, but I am not so sure. (She used hot glue.)
I also bought 5 celluloid reindeer to add to my herd, but they are still in the bag.
Sheila headed home after the show, but Bobbie, Melissa and I headed to Simple Goods. I go just about every year and each time I wonder why. I have never been a big fan and I think most of the prices are laughable. No offense to those of you who like it. That's just MHO :) My big purchase was three tobacco sticks ($1 each) to make a tripod for the garden. I wasn't thinking but I should have bought 4 more to make another box/stand.
We actually made a quick return trip to GT because there was a coverlet piece Melissa regretted not buying. Luckily it was still there, and then I found this little pantry box to bring home with me. Nothing special and I probably already have that size, but for the price I couldn't pass it up.
I finished Santa and Sheep by Star Rug Company. The first picture is washed out. The colors are pretty true in the close up.
I think I am going to use these antique buttons on his coat. I bought some rusty stars, but I think I like these better. Now to get it steamed, bound and the buttons sewn on . . . sigh.
Thanks so much for stopping by.
Pug hugs :)

Nice! I want that pitcher and box on sticks. You could decorate that outside for all seasons. Good job
ReplyDeleteLove all your purchases, especially the turkey. He's a beauty! Love your rug finish too. How does one sew buttons on through the rug loops??
ReplyDeleteYour Santa is really cute.
ReplyDeleteHi Lauren,
ReplyDeleteLove the box and it will look great either way! Too bad you didn't get more sticks!!
If I still lived in OH or MI I would have loved to hook up with you all! Sounds like fun and happy you could find some treasures! Love your rug too!!
Have a great week!
Warm Hugs~
Julie
I love your Jolly olde St. Knick. The bells or the buttons will be nice so go with your favorite. You did good for your antique finds; hopefully you can scrape out the hot glue. Or do a google search to see how to remove it; maybe heating it up in a pot of hot water might help.

It was nice seeing you Lauren!! I really like your turkey. All your stuff. I bought 2 rug hooking patterns and a big dough bowl at Simple Goods outside from Doreen.
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun, fun day! I always look forward to the show...I love your little green stand..It would be perfect in your room. Love your rug...
ReplyDeleteYou know every time I read your blog I have to ask you about something. I must just not get out enough, what kind of place is Simple Goods? I like all of the goodies you find when you go antiquing. I think it sounds like so much fun.
ReplyDeleteI love that turkey.
Almost went to SG but heard about the prices and decided against the drive. If you leave the pitcher out in your car (28 degrees tonight) you can probably lift the greenery right out. To remove hot glue, just freeze it. My sister sold angel pins and we were packed the night before - did not know they would be coming apart after the cold night in the car!!
ReplyDeleteI love your buys and your hooked Santa is gorgeous. Love his red coat. The buttons are perfect! Glad you had a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteHugs Marg.
I don't know what tobacco sticks are but they look like fence posts. I am going to show that box to David to make some. The Ironstone piece put it in the frig or freezer for a bit and the hot glue should release.
ReplyDeleteLove your santa and his buttons.
Cathy
I agree with Cathy of Acorn Hollow. It should come out if you put it in the freezer and try to pull the tree out. Hot glue is really not meant for the cold...
ReplyDeletePretty soon you'll have to move to a bigger house to have more room for all your treasures.
I love that turkey.
Hugs,
JB
Seems like everyone is making something from tobacco sticks. My son in law gave me two big bundles of them. I wanted to make a couple of Christmas trees with them.
ReplyDeleteI've wished I lived closer to Ohio so I could go to the show but never thought about the prices being too high.
Would not be much fun to go and not be able to buy anything.
I love the turkey!
Sounds like you all had a fun time and nice to get together with friends. Love your find and I need to start making things again, need to clean the basement and get Bill back on the saw;)

Fun Fun Fun!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMorning Lauren, fantastic buys, what fun to go with friends. Love the turkey, I would have bought it too. Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteAren't play dates the best !!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had lots of fun.
We use tobacco sticks as tripods in the garden also. We turn a heavy clay pot upside down over the top (where all three sticks meet) - it holds the tripod in place.
