A Finish ~ A Start

My Magdalena horses - complete with a whipped edge.  The finished size including the edge is about 13 1/2" x 22".  Ali Strebel has the most wonderful 100% wool that I used.
The horse on the right is a bit chunky, shall we say?  Sometimes I have a bit of a problem staying within the lines.  It adds to its primitive charm, right?

Currently on the frame is a design by Lanna Omlor of Humble Rugs.  It will be about 24 1/2 x 13 3/4 when completed.  As many of you will attest to, using the hit and miss technique is not as easy as it looks.  Other than the background, I plan to use only worms or cut pieces of wool that are only a few inches wide.  I'm sure it would be a bit easier if I had separated the worms by color, but of course I didn't do that.  This most likely will be a Christmas gift.  If I'm going to get my gifts hooked, I'd better get busy, but this may get put aside to hook the snowman from the most recent issues of Primitive Quilts and Projects, designed by Tonya Robey.  He just looks fun.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.  I was productive yesterday, but today not so much so.  Oh well, better one productive day than none . . . sigh.
Thanks so much for stopping by.
Pug hugs :)
Lauren

Hi Lauren - those little bits of red wool in your horse rug really add a welcome splash of color - love it! And your flower rug is a bit bigger than you normally hook, right? It will be fun with all the hit & miss parts. I'm impressed that you're already thinking of Christmas gifts - I'm not even in that mindset yet! LOL

Good evening Lauren, wonderful rugs, you are such a great hooker, no pun intended...LOL...What I love about primitive rug hooking there is no "right or wrong way"...Fall is such a busy season, always so much to do and so little time before winter sets in...Love my bracelet, I wore it to Corgi Cottage...

Your horses are wonderful. I love the new design you're working on. Still can't figure out how a thick strip of wool goes through that fabric and it's not distorted!! I'm going to YouTube for a video.

Your horse rug is devine! And YES! I will be the first to attest to the fact that what looks like an easy hit and miss rug is NOT in fact, easy. My empathy and wishes for patience to you m'dear. You surely will need the patience.

I agree that the red really brings your horse rug to life. You did such a great job. I wish I could be as productive as you but it's difficult finding time to hook these days. So much needs to be done around here.

I'm not sure if you mean that you are going to hook with two inch wide pieces or cut worms from pieces that are two inches wide... I hook with what you would call spaghetti, lol...
Hope that you have a fun week.
Hugs,
JB

Your horses are great. Love that style although I've never hooked one. What size strips are those??
The new one is going to be great too.

Good job on the horses! The chunkier one can be a draft horse. LOL!
Am really loving the look of your new rug. Can't wait to see it finished.

LOVE your Magdalena horses rug, Lauren...plump horse included!! Very primitive. What a great idea to use worms from narrow pieces of wool...I have a basket FULL of those narrow cuts of wool...too hard to stack them ;0)

Can't wait to see your flower/tongue rug finished!
