Fat Little Blue Bird ~

I am notoriously bad at not going to my worm basket when I am hooking unless I am hooking a hit and miss.  I just find it easier to pull uncut pieces of wool.  This time I was determined to use some of the worms because they just seem to multiply!

I pulled all my lightest value worms and put them in a smaller basket and used these to hook my background.  I was going to be very random and just pick one and use it.  Well, I'd stick my hand in and pick one and decide that one wasn't "just right" and go in search of a slightly different shade.

Now that I've taken a picture, I see that I need to add a slightly darker value worm or two around the tail feathers and below the breast.  I probably used at least a dozen different wools and like the way it turned out.  The little mat is about 8 1/4" x 11 1/4".

I can't believe another weekend is over!  Thanks so much for stopping by.
Pug hugs :)
Lauren

I like the way he is now, looks good with the mix of light and dark and the bird is a beautiful blue shade.

Cute little guy. I always say I'm just gonna pull a random strip from the basket and use it, but I end of rifling for the "right" one. Glad I'm not alone!

I had to smile....it must be the definition of the rug hookers "random".....almost, nearly, occasionally random, with a little tweak here and there! Love it.

Such a great lil' birdie I would leave it just like it is!!!

I think he is adorable! The light one by his tail might be a little bright, but that's the joy of a hit and miss background. :-) I wouldn't change a thing.

Very sweet little tweet! Funny bit about getting picky about the random worms though!

Too cute, Lauren!! Love the adorable bird...is it your pattern?

I can relate to your "random" worm choices...I'm afflicted, too! No matter how hard I try to be random, I reject several worms before I find the perfect "random" strip!! LOL

Linda

Lauren - I like the scrappy look of your background, but I bet you didn't make much of a dent in your worm basket, huh? LOL

Your little bluebird mat is so cute! I once had a teacher tell me that when hooking with worms, you only get 3 strikes, and you have to use your third worm.

One of my very bestestest friends is a hooker... she's given me countless lessons......I don't know why I can't do it. Well, I can hook just fine, but all the shading and such seems to elude me... love your birdie.

I had to laugh when you mentioned second guessing the color of the worm you pulled out and went for another ~ that is totally me.

I like your birdie mat.
