The Bugs is Back! The Bugs is Back!

Today did not start out as a very good day. When I finally rolled over and looked at the alarm clock, I discovered at that very minute I should be in my car, backing out of the garage and heading for work. Now in the last four years, I have only done this one other time. Normally it would not be such a big deal and I could call and let them know I was running late, but my co-worker (the two legged one) was off and I knew I had to download pictures from the camera and give it back to the lawn maintenance crew in approximately 25 minutes! Let me tell you I took the world's quickest shower, threw on the first thing I picked up (luckily our office is very casual) and was out the door in less than 15 minutes. Poor Eema did not know what was going on. No breakfast, no potty walk. Luckily my DSO said he would come over to feed and walk her. Somehow I arrived at work only 13 minutes late ~ 23 minutes after I got out of bed. Whew!
AND....on top of that when I looked out the window, I discovered "they" were back. It was NOT a good morning.
A few posts ago, I mentioned that the bugs were back, but only a few. Not this time! For you longtime readers, you may recall a post last summer where I blogged about the Canadian soldiers, aka mayflies, aka the bugs that don't bite or poop, live only a day, but scare the bejesus out of me. Generally, the closer to Lake Erie (they hatch from the lake), the more bugs, but these pics were taken at least a half mile from the lake. They seem to be most attracted to the color white. Just a bit creepy, aren't they?
Hopefully they will only be hatching for a few days and then be done!
A good part of the day was chilly, but it warmed up enough early this evening to take my grandson for a swim. It definitely was not warm enough for me, but of course he enjoyed himself.

Replicas of the Nina and the Pinta are docked at the Port of Lorain. It was hard to get a good picture of them. I cannot even imagine setting sail in one of these over 500 years ago, not knowing where you were going or what you would find. Definitely not Royal Caribbean!

Saturday I'm off to a hook in. Hopefully I can enjoy a little bit of "me time" and even pull a few loops. I'm hoping to have lots of pictures to share with you.
Thank you so much for stopping by and please come again soon!
Pug hugs :)
Lauren

Those bugs are scary especially in larger numbers, we will soon have June Bugs, they are big, sticky and beat on the windows at night if the lights are on.

I love opening your Blog just to see your Pug pics.

Enjoy the hook-in. Wish I could go with you!! Sadly, I think my hooking is on hold until fall when farm life settles down a bit.

Unlike everyone else, Zip thought the mayflies were totally cool. He's a fly fisherman, what else can you expect! LOL!

The little swimmer with the missing teeth is just too cute! Amazing how kids can have so much fun and not mind how cool it is. We'd be freezing!!!

I grew up on the Mississippi river and we called them Fishflies... they would get so bad you had to sweep them up every morning.. and if you were dumb enough to wear hairspray in the humid weather they would stick to your hair. hated those things..

Oh my goodness, is it that time of year for those darned flies. How yucky they are. I'm going to be spending tomorrow in Algonac, so I'm sure that I'll see my share. UCK!!! You get enough of them in one place and they turn the roads into skating rinks!!

Hi Lauren,
It was so great to see you today. Don't envy you with your bugs; however, at least they don't bite..the mosquitos are killing us.

How long are the boats in port? Would love to see them, I haven't been by the lake in years.
